Massive Oil spill solution already exists (tags)
There's a potential solution to the Gulf oil spill that neither BP, nor the federal government, nor anyone — save a couple intuitive engineers — seems willing to try. empty supertankers to suck the spill off the surface, treat and discharge the contaminated water.
When Authors Are Authoritative (tags)
It is not mere coincidence the word authority takes command from the word author, or a group of authors acting as a united force. Both words are coequal and stem from the idea that some form of egotistic persuasion has come to dominate or rule. This authoritarian reality is true irrespective of whether people put their faith in law, religion, articulated ideology, or any other form of persuasive power. Yet there is little doubt that the most effective form of authority, if believed, is that which speaks fore an endgame result of lasting spiritual finality—namely those clerics, that is how their personalities, claim to speak for an ultimate power of religion, and the ego-will of God, Yahweh or Allah. What mere mortal can stand up to what Hobbes has described as the Leviathan or the iron-fisted state?
The Accursed Anathema of Judeo-Christian History in the Western World: What It Means Today (tags)
The introduction of Christianity in the Roman Empire threatened Rome because even then Christianity seem to create “fanatical” minds—that were willing to die for their faith to a single monotheistic God who was seemingly too jealous and intolerant to tolerate the idea that other Gods also expected respect as worthy. The only loyalty those early proselytes had was a sole loyalty to a God outside the Empire. Then Constantine impressed by such zealots exploited Christian fanaticism as he made Christianity the official Roman religion—creating the especial emergence of Church to State (or as our American forefathers warned “temporal and spiritual tyranny”).

STOP THE MILITARY OFFENSIVES, RESUME PEACE TALKS NOW! (tags)
The Alliance Philippines (AJLPP) expresses serious concern on the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) warned of a full-blown war with the peace process “in purgatory” after the government told the Supreme Court on Friday that a Moro homeland deal had been scrapped. The AJLPP also are very wary about reports that more than 400,000 people in Mindanao have been affected or dislocated by the heavy fighting as Ramadan sets in. MILF chief negotiator Mohaqher Iqbal told Reuters news agency that the MILF was no longer confident it could strike a final peace agreement under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s administration. “We might as well wait for the next president after the 2010 elections,” Iqbal said. “She is just trying to save her own neck. That’s why she was not willing to defend the peace agreement and was also willing to sacrifice everything just to stay in power.”

Tony Blair: “Poisonous Propaganda” (tags)
Tony (45 mins) Blair, member of the coalition of willing criminals and terrified of the prospect of facing a war crimes tribunal, has today labelled the dissenting voice of opposition (justice) as “poisonous propaganda”. The world received this ridiculous statement with ample incredulity. We are all familiar with the politics of inversion and pathologically lying Prime Ministers (Blair and Howard) but this latest desperate statement from Blair even elicited a bray from the Whitehouse donkey, who is far too busy with his own problems to offer any assistance to his partner in crime. The three most notorious murderers of the 21st century, Bush, Blair and Howard are facing an extremely hazardous future!
Drinking Tea with Hizbullah (tags)
n the village of Silaa in southern Lebanon, on the forty-day memorial of the killing of 8 residents by Israeli aerial bombardment, a lunch in commemoration of the dead was provided to the villagers by the Campaign for Civil Resistance. After we completed our visit to the grieving families, we are invited to the muktar's home, to share tea, fruit and conversation. The local representative from Hizbullah joins us. Upon learning that I am from America, he smiles and he entreats me to sit next to him. He asks me what I think and how I feel about the destruction I have seen. The nargillah is brought out and we leisurely smoke and drink tea, enjoying the shaded veranda and an afternoon breeze. We discuss the war, and the role of Hizbullah in civil society. I am told that Hizbullah is not a state within a state, but a state where none exists, for the south of Lebanon has been neglected for decades by the Lebanese government. As for the fighters, he says, who won't fight to protect their families, their homes, and their communities? How, he wonders, are we different from Americans?

Many of us have already signed petitions which have their value, but how useful does that really make us feel? Do you ask yourself - "What more can I do?"
