There was emphasis on the importance of voting and being engaged in society, sexual harassment and assault, equal pay, and a variety of other issues including LGBT, racism, hate crimes, global warming, and war. ...... Last year's march was supposed to open with a ceremony involving the Tongva, L.A.'s first people, but things went wrong. This year, however, it happened (and there were references to the Tongva by speakers in the ensuing rally).

Messages on signs included, “See Jane overthrow patriarchy”; “Our descendants are looking back on us” (sign shaped like a pair of eyes); “Life is easier because of my white male privilege. That's not right”; “Stop Tweeting, start listening”; and “Abort Trump.” A number of signs had images of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia; captions included references to rebellions being founded on hope. Demonstrations at Disneyland, the most powerful economic force in Anaheim, occurred both Saturday and Sunday, with a turnout ranging from 10 to 15 on the latter. Another couple hundred people were en route to join us (having just demonstrated outside the police headquarters) but were barred by police (as organizers learned via cell phone communications).

The California governor’s general election of 2006 was a low voter turnout election due to the deliberate lack of campaign by the pro-death penalty millionaire Democrat Phil Angelides against the pro-death penalty millionaire Republican incumbent Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. In spite of this mockery of democracy, the 2 anti-death penalty peace parties, Peace & Freedom Party and the Green Party did as well as could be expected and both certainly remain on the ballot.
