This 4th of July 2021, there are those of us in San Francisco who have declared our independence from the United States Government. We hope many more will do the same. We fully understand that more will not come from San Francisco.
I’ll miss Hugo. When I first was introduced to him in Porto Alegre in 2003, he greeted me, “Mi padre,” and said he learned a lot from me. I was dubious about this and thought he was simply buttering me up, like any two-bit politician. Then he started telling me what he learned from Development Debacle, Deglobalization, and Dark Victory. I was stupefied; the guy actually read my stuff!

The City of Carson has just achieved another milestone in ordinance making. On July 15, the city has just declared Carson as a drug-free city. In a simple but well attended program that was held at the front courtyard of Carson City Hall, the City officials led by Mayor Jim Dear and Elito Santarina, Mayor Pro tem unveiled the drug-free city warning sign acclaimed by the cheering public. On April 16, 2010 the Carson City Council unanimously voted to adopt an ordinance that declared Carson as a “drug-free city and to provide enhanced penalties for the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession and illegal use of controlled substances.

GMA played with the Congress and let them hold a useless session just to pull the rug under them by “lifting” the martial law she declared beforehand. She played around with the Supreme Court by giving them a fait accompli and rendering the case “moot.”
