More Army troops deployed to W. Visayas to crush Reds (tags)
PESANTE NEWS learned today from media sources from Cebu City that the Army has deployed more troops in Western Visayas, just months before the June 2010 deadline set by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to strategically defeat the communist-led insurgency. The Army's 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) based in Jamindan town, Capiz on Monday formally deployed 190 soldiers to units on the islands of Negros, Panay and parts of Mindanao, 3ID public information officer 1st Lt. Mark Andrew Posadas said in a statement.
ARROYO ORDERS AFP TO WIPE OUT NPA IN SAMAR/NEGROS (tags)
More clashes are expected between government soldiers and communist rebels following President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo’s order for the military to wipe out guerrillas in Samar. Ms. Arroyo issued the order to the military at a visit to Samar last week before she went to her trip abroad. This was according to Lt. Col. Oscar Lasangue, head of the 3rd Civil Relations Group of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. In a phone interview Tuesday, Lasangue said Samar and Negros Island were priorities in the counterinsurgency campaign. He said the military’s job was to reduce rebel strength to allow the Philippine National Police to take over the fight against the communists. The communist New People’s Army, however, insisted on its continued strength in a statement posted on its website.

Gen Ochoa of the 3rd ID Phil Army (PA) once again is "flying in the clouds" when he said that the "insurgency problem" will end in 2008. His braggings are the same with the illusions of the generals during the Marcos dictatorship up to the Estrada regime. He only wants to entertain the officials of the 302nd and 303rd Bde that their promotions will be affected because of the AFP's failures to hit their target-objectives in destroying the revolutionary movement in Negros being the priority of Oplan Bantay Laya (OBL2) II in the whole of Western Visayas. In three quarters of this year, the AFP has no significant breakthrough in their counter-revolutionary campaign. Surely by the last quarter of this year, they wil reap nothing but failures.

Military officials are desperate in their drive to destroy the New People's Army in Negros. Col Honorato de los Reyes of the 303rd Bde kag Lt Col Cesar Yano of 302nd Bde, Phil Army have also ordered their infantry battalions, Scout Ranger and Division Reconnisance Company Units to include as targets of their operations the civilians they alleged as "NPA supporters or NPAs" and the legal legitimate organizations of the people.

About 50 communist rebels, posing as policemen, attacked the construction site of a foreign-funded international airport in Silay City, Negros Occidental, early Sunday, burning down P30-million worth of equipment. The P4.3-billion airport is one of three newly developed airports in three provinces mentioned by the President in her State of the Nation address in July.

Agrarian violence claimed two more lives this month. A leader of Task Force Mapalad (TFM), Rico Adeva, 39, was gunned down by three men as he and his wife Nenita were walking to their home in Barangay Dos Hermanas, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Black Saturday. He suffered seven bullet wounds – in the head, stomach, chest, and hand. Meanwhile, in Davao, the Secretary General of the National Coordination of Autonomous Local Rural People’s Organizations (UNORKA), Eric Cabanit, was assassinated by two masked men while he was in a public market in Panabo last April 24, 2006. His daughter, who was with him when the shooting happened, was also wounded and is still in critical condition.
