$9 Billion is ’Missing’, and Republicans Refuse to Investigate (tags)

Certain Congresspeople are refusing to investigate this theft of $9 billion, doesn’t that make them accessories to the crime? According to The Constitution, it is the duty of Congress to investigate these crimes. Their purpose is to provide ’checks and balances’ to the Executive Branch, expressly to be something other than a horde of rubber stamp lemmings.

Torture and Brutality, America's New World Order (tags)

After failing to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq or identifying any connection between Saddam Hussein?s regime and al Qaeda, the US government tried to justify its bloody war on the people of Iraq by asserting that it freed Iraqi people from a brutal and fascist regime. They claimed that the world had become safer without the Baath regime and that the US would build the first democracy in the Arab world as a symbol and role model for other countries in the region.

Where's the loyal opposition to the war? (tags)

The good news for opponents of the war in Iraq is that President Bush's challenger has finally called for a rapid American withdrawal. "Every day the U.S. military remains in Iraq," he said, "we imperil U.S. security, drain our economy, ignore our nation's domestic needs and prevent democratic self-rule from developing in Iraq." The bad news is that the challenger's name is Ralph Nader.

Iraqis stage protest against U.S. imposed flag (tags)

In the photo, Iraqi university students raise the Iraqi flag over their campus in the northern city of Mosul April 28, 2004 while demonstrating against the U.S. occupation forces attempting to introduce a new flag for the country. The unelected and U.S. hand picked Iraqi Governing Council adopted a new national flag (see inset) which consists of a pale blue crescent on a white background and has a yellow strip between two lines of blue at the bottom. Also in the photo, the Iraqi university students look up at their massive flag draped over a campus building. Critics of the new flag say it places Iraq outside of the Arab world... since all Arab flags use a combination of the colors red, green, black, and white. It has also been noted that the U.S. occupation imposed flag bares a striking simularity to the Israeli flag. The photo also shows Iraqi civilians burning the newly imposed occupation sanctioned flag (Reuters photos, Namir Noor-Eldeen)

Civilian casualties mounting in Falluja (tags)

As the U.S. occupation forces pound civilian targets in Falluja with tank fire and a U.S. "Apache" heliocopter fires missiles at a Mosque (killing 40 gathered for prayer), the Aljazeera news agency are the only ones to have a crew in the city under seige. Cameramen Layf Muftaq and Hasan Walid, sound engineer Sayf al-Din and correspondent Hamid Hadid, are risking their lives to report on events as they occur. Some of their photos have now been published on the Aljazeera website (see link). The photo on this page by the Aljazeera crew shows one of the "insurgents" killed by U.S. occupation forces in the most recent fighting in Falluja.

The Post quoted one man telling a RTI contractor, "We feel we are going backwards"....

The Fallacies Of American Democracy For Iraq (tags)

American democracy today is in serious trouble. At the national level, the process of electing a president, or representatives and senators has become so expensive that only the wealthy or candidates supported by them can play. The process has been co-opted and corrupted by increasingly concentrated ownership of media and business, including banking, transportation, manufacturing, and energy. Legislative programs and goals largely focus on catering to the large organizations and the wealthy contributors. Our system was designed to work on a basis of majority rule, but effective control by a shrinking pool of elitists who also control both parties through contributions, has led to a situation in which not even the majority, albeit often invoked for political discussion, can decide any important issue.

Because the President of the United States is getting burned in Iraq every day, along with the military forces he commands, by those geniuses over at the American Enterprise Institute, and their neocon amen corner in the administration, who told him that American troops would be greeted as "liberators," that it would be a "cakewalk," and that the entry of our troops into Baghdad was like the march into Paris in the summer of 1944. Then why are the Iraqis responding as if it's the summer of 1940 – and they're the French Resistance?
