Group of Six shutdown Wells Fargo (tags)
April 10th was a warm sunny Tuesday and exceptionally busy in downtown riverside. Walking through the main st. mall adjacent to the mission inn with men and woman in suits meeting for business lunches all seemed to be normal. However Refund California Coalition an economic justice organization, paired with group of UCR students and Occupy Riverside organizers, began to setup signs and a microphone with the Gandhi statue overlooking. People in the mall began to turn their heads in curiosity, the conversation had started.
Tyisha Miller remembered in light of recent spate of police shootings (tags)
RIVERSIDE (California) - Today marks the thirteen-year anniversary of the police murder of Tyisha Miller, a nineteen-year-old African-American woman shot by the Riverside police department. The murder caused an outcry, particularly among the city's black community, and led to some of the most militant and long-reaching organizaing the region had seen in years, including a shutdown of the 91 freeway and the establishment of numerous bureaucratic apparatuses put in place to prevent such tragedies.

Accompanied by a police guard, Riverside Police Chief Russ Leach defended the shooting of a Laotian-American last weekend, but won few converts, as more than 50 people appeared at the Commission meeting, to ask one major question: Why did the police department resort to lethal force to kill a person of color, while allowing a white man in a similar situation to live?
A trip through Riverside Police Department's Internal Affairs: the investigation (tags)
After the Riverside Police Department's Metro SWAT team had pulled an activist out of the middle of a crowd of protesters to cite him for crossing against a don't walk signal, the activists vowed to keep marching, while the city applauded the crackdown. I decided to file a complaint with the department's internal affairs division, not knowing that the old adage that police officers investigate themselves was going to turn out to be quite true. Here is more background on the police crackdown and the cast of characters that led the charge, against a peaceful group.
A trip through Riverside Police Department's Internal Affairs: the protest (tags)
In most police departments, there is an adage that internal affairs units allow police to investigate themselves. With the Riverside Police Department, that proved to be through, and as the process continued, things got stranger, and stranger. In part 1, of a series, here is the police crackdown of a peaceful rally, that started the journey, and exposed the lack of accountability and its effect on a law enforcement agency.
