Obama’s Still Shopping for a Grand Bargain (tags)
President Obama’s recent closed-door sessions with Republican congressmen to reach a “grand bargain” has roused suspiciously little attention in the mainstream media. What scant reporting has occurred presents the following narrative: President Obama is a “middle ground” politician attempting to breach political divides with erstwhile Republican opponents. In reality these meetings are not between political opposites, but kindred spirits; perfectly matched ideologies that differ only in implementation, and only by degrees.

He said: "It's a travesty. There's a million homeless in Lebanon and the intense amount of bombing has brought an entire country to its knees."
Fanatic Netanyahu stands waiting with a bomb for Iran (tags)
"Netanyahu has the inside track on winning the election and forming the government - by a narrow margin. One of the more likely outcomes is that voters who would have gone with Sharon to Kadima will be less likely to support Olmert. They will come home to Likud," said Gerald Steinberg, a professor of political studies at Bar Ilan University near Tel Aviv.

The Democrats don’t deserve our support (tags)
There is no reason to assume, as many do, that a Gore presidency would have avoided war after September 11. Clinton oversaw UN-sponsored sanctions against Iraq that led to the deaths of more than 1 million Iraqis, and U.S. warplanes dropped bombs on Iraq almost daily during his time in office. And Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act in 1998, calling for the U.S. "to seek to remove the regime headed by Saddam Hussein." Clinton’s Secretary of State Madeleine Albright admits in a recent Foreign Affairs article, "I personally felt [Bush’s new Iraq] war was justified on the basis of Saddam’s decade-long refusal to comply with UN Security Council resolutions on weapons of mass destruction."
Cracking the Media Walls (tags)

Shattered Illusions - Analyzing the War on Terrorism (tags)
Shattered Illusions is unashamedly a voice of dissent which brings together in one comprehensive volume, essays from intellectuals, human right activists, lawyers, journalists, and academics whose insights and perspectives provide both an intellectual and humane criticism of the Bush administration's current war policy. It not only challenges the framing of the war as a struggle between good and evil, but also critically assesses President George W. Bush's explanation for anti-U.S. sentiments.
Is Chip Berlet's earlier post today [9/25/02] seriously suggesting that there was no "conspiracy" involved in 9-11?
In most of these theories there were false assumption conflating Jewish religion and ethnicity, Israel, Zionism, and the current Israeli government. Sometimes the assertion was that Jews controlled U.S. foreign policy, while in other cases there were outright claims that the Israeli intelligence service Mossad had staged the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Iraq inspections pave way for peace (tags)
Iraq’s agreement to unconditional weapons inspections is a significant step forward, but the Bush administration’s negative reaction shows it wants to start a war regardless, former senator James Abourezk (D-S.D.) said Sept. 17.
Just as they did on a March 1 broadcast, when Ruppert was prevented from discussing 9-11 by Norman Solomon's distractions, Pacifica today showed that they are more concerned with helping preserve the careers of their friends than in serving their listeners.
