If Only Ed Were Smart Enough To Realize, Starting Trouble Only Causes Trouble (tags)

It seems an easy thing for people to get a handle on, and growing up almost all of us are taught it. You stay away from problems by making wise choices, and not opting to engage in behavior that will cause you excessive problems. It only makes life difficult and more complicated. I mean in the end, once you've stepped in the wrong places enough, you start to learn, right? Not many people with half a brain go looking for problems past a certain point in their lives. Pretty much most of that ends in high school and maybe a year or two beyond depending on who you are.

Quiapo vendors (tags)

The day after “Ka Bel” died, my father sent me an email urging me to go to the wake for the party-list representative. He said Crispin Beltran was once his boss and one whom he deeply respected, and he felt it was his filial obligation to offer flowers and prayers at his wake. But since he was away in Maastricht, the Netherlands, on a scholarship, he asked me to go his place. I’m no leftist; I’m not even politically inclined, as some of my schoolmates have probably noted. So when I put on my denim pants and rubber shoes to go to Manila’s Quiapo district to buy some flowers, I thought that I was merely doing what my father had asked me to do: to offer flowers and prayers for a dead man.

Only the proposal to limit lawmaker pay passed. Five of the propositions failed with 64 percent of the votes counted, according to California’s elections office. Despite threats from lawmakers and fear mongering that the crisis would aggravate because of the a record $42 billion budget gap, the people voted against the measures. Its "Leave you Gas Guzzlin/Polluting Car Home Day!" (tags)

The Failure of Modern Western Society (tags)

Wind down from your artificially induced stress/pace and confront your personal reality – take stock for a moment. Your existence has been confined to sustaining and maintaining a system that makes ever-increasing demands on your liberty and freedom – the pillars upon which joy and satisfaction are built/derived! The frenzied pace of western society is largely the result of the manic need for ever increasing profits and greater concentrations of wealth in the fewest possible hands, which inevitably makes higher demands on those at the bottom of the financial scale. Obtaining wealth is simply a matter of applying unfair downward pressure in favour of upward flowing benefits; wealth is not created it is the result of manipulation and/or theft – the historical record bears this out. Put simply, profit is exploitation/theft!

New World Order (tags)

A recent article brought home the shocking truth of today’s new world order by contrasting the social outrage expressed against Richard Nixon for his minor offence of a break and enter (Watergate) with today's social complacency in the face of half-a-million civilian dead in Iraq. The office of president of the USA has become an experimental position where corporate placed buffoons are allowed to reign ruin on the world. The “bouquet of flowers, mission accomplished, WMD, give war a chance”, administration has got it wrong from the start yet ‘bouquet’ Wolfowitz has been promoted to the president of the World Bank, where he continues to bungle and lose to other interests (China). The incompetent clown, Bush, remains president and the criminals who benefit remain behind the scenes profiting on the misery of others!

Democracy Burning (tags)

What consistencies, common elements and patterns are identifiable in the following events: the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the attack on the USS Liberty and 9/11? Although time, geographic location and historical context separate these events they nevertheless share remarkably similar aims, objectives and characteristics. All these orchestrated events provided an excuse for the USA to engage in what would have otherwise been blatantly illegal warfare. The Tonkin incident ‘justified’ American miliary aggression against Vietnam; the USS Liberty incident would have provided an ideal excuse for U.S. involvement in the six-day war; the 9/11 attack has been utilised as the primary justification for America’s military expansionism and the implementation of draconian laws on the home front.

Valuing the Lives of the People vs. Wanton Police Murder (tags)

If they were there to serve and protect, they would have found any way but the way they did it to handle this scene, they could have and would have found a solution that was much better than this. "Programs?" Resist this License to Kill (tags)

A doctrine of pre-emptive war, together with a disingenuous and aggressive intention to declare facilities "dual-use", is a a licence to kill. We need to see the evidence that there were bio-chemical weapons, not conceivably "dual-use" or defunct programs. Given recent history, any claim that there was an active program would have to be subjected to the most intense scrutiny. Investigative committees should guard strictly against allowing the administration to morph "weapons" into "programs", otherwise a frightening precedent will be set.
