Are some activists star children and now indigo adults? (tags)

Many activists have higher levels of empathy and show opposition to unjust authority. The concept of star children includes indigo adults as people with souls that are from somewhere else. These individuals are often shut down by hierarchal power structures in the school, workplace and status quo politics. Though skeptics disagree with this concept, it is worth understanding the possibility of evolved humans who are able to dismantle authoritarian regimes while dreaming wide awake.

Media Gets Targeted by Obama, Discovers No One Cares Except the Media (tags)

It remains to be seen whether the media will start doing its job now that it’s been subjected to a small taste of what the public has been bludgeoned with for years via FISA, CISPA, the NDAA, the PATRIOT Act, et cetera. All these laws basically allow unlimited spying on and detention of Americans without any due process guaranteed by the Constitution.

I’ll miss Hugo. When I first was introduced to him in Porto Alegre in 2003, he greeted me, “Mi padre,” and said he learned a lot from me. Then he started telling me what he learned from Development Debacle, Deglobalization, and Dark Victory. I was stupefied; the guy actually read my stuff!

They Cannot Win (tags)

Being in a situation where it feels as though the odds are stacked against you, and people are interested in seeing harm come to you in one form or another can be hard to deal with, there's no doubt about it. When it feels as though amount of support, at least directly within the situation in question, is tipped way in favor of those against whatever it is you are doing there, in terms of your goals and needs in the situation, it can easily bring about pangs of despair. It can feel as though there are no options, it can feel as though there are no chances and it can feel as though you might just have to take an “L” on whatever it is. We all have been through similar feelings to one extent or another in life, especially the longer we live it.

Cindy Sheehan Speaks at Reception in San Diego (tags)

For four years, from her emergence as an anti-war activist following the death of her son Casey in combat in Iraq, Cindy Sheehan was a hero among liberals and Democrats for her attempts to hold then-President George W. Bush to account for starting the Iraq war and taking her son's life in vain. Then she ran for Congress against Democratic icon Nancy Pelosi and made it clear she held both major parties responsible for the war and the rest of America's ills. Now she's Roseanne Barr's running mate in the Peace and Freedom Party's Presidential campaign, running on a socialist platform that says education, housing and health care are human rights.

Chris Hassett: Queer Activist, Teacher Tells Stories in Music (tags)

Yes, Virginia, There ARE Gay Men in Kansas! (tags)

Most Queer people, unless they actually came from Kansas, think of it as the place Dorothy Gale was lucky enough to be flown out of by a cyclone in "The Wizard of Oz." But San Diego's Diversionary Theatre is producing an original musical, "Harmony, Kansas," a touching comedy/drama about Gay men in Kansas who come together and form a singing group just to have one place where they can be who they are.

Ed’s Aren't As Powerful As You Might Think They Are (tags)

When I was a student at the University of Connecticut between the years of 2003 and 2006 I had the opportunity to view an aspect of the way our tax dollars get spent up close and personal. I saw this, though I wasn't meant to, and the way things were to unfold, there certainly couldn't have been any script, none that got adhered to anyway. Like anyone else, I got upset about certain things I was to see with regards to where my tax dollars went from time to time if I saw something on the news. Up until that point though, it was never enough to pinpoint one specific thing and connect it to tax dollars. But while at the University of Connecticut, I learned just how our dollars can be burned up uselessly without a care and how people on the taxpayer dime can take advantage of the system, responsibility, position and money they've been granted.

The Guy That Just Said, “Yeah? No Thanks.” (tags)

Standing up to conflict and harassment can seem a difficult thing. It's never easy for anyone and really who can say they've truly faced all that life has to offer in the way of trials and tribulations without having gone through some measure of harassment or maltreatment at least once? Of course harassment is relative and what is harsh treatment to one person, or deemed behavior that crosses a line, is merely everyday stuff to another. But there are laws and institutional regulations that define boundaries and denote specific behavior as going too far. Additionally there is the common sense most of us developed over our lifetimes.

Diversionary's "Next Fall": Fun and Thought-Provoking (tags)

"Next Fall," playing through March 25 at Diversionary Theatre in University Heights, San Diego, is a sometimes funny, sometimes wrenching, sometimes thought-provoking play in which an auto accident involving one member of a Gay male couple provokes confrontations between his partner and his blood family and triggers a series of flashbacks highlighting the conflict of faith between the victim, a devout born-again Christian, and his non-believing lover.

Connor Maddocks Teaches "Trans 101" to Queer Marriage Group (tags)

The Queer community is increasingly referred to by the awkward acronym "LGBT" ? which stands for "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender" ? but few Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals really understand the needs, struggles and the rights of Transgender people. To bridge that gap, the San Diego Alliance for Marriage Equality (S.A.M.E.) invited Connor Maddocks, facilities manager at the San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center and a female-to-male Transgender person, to make a presentation at their March 8 meeting. Maddocks' talk spanned a number of issues, from the physical aspects of a gender transition to the ways Transgender people are discriminated against and the hostility they sometimes face not only from heterosexuals but other Queers.

This dress rehearsal for the Civil War wrenched the country apart and, in MOXIE's hands, becomes powerful, vivid, well-acted drama. "Bleeding Kansas" plays through Sunday, November 2 at Diversionary Theatre, 4545 Park Boulevard in University Heights, San Diego.

For those incapable of seeing beyond the sand their head is buried in, anything unusual is just a coincidence. Anything which might require them to actually think critically is of course out of the question.
