Billy Graham: Pro Christ or Anti Christ (tags)

Billy Graham was more a representative of the imperial American elite than a follower of the meek and humble Jesus. He comforted every president for 70 years in their shameful Korean War, Vietnam War and Iraq War. Fast cleaning and Graham soap marked "God's machine gun."

Health Care and the Supremes (tags)

When the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the constitutional challenge to the Affordable Care Act in late March, the vicious hostility of their comments signaled their intent not only to rule so-called "Obamacare" unconstitutional but to fundamentally recast the Court's jurisprudence. It's clear from the health-care hearings and from previous decisions like Citizens United that the Court's five-member Right-wing majority wants to return to the days before and during the New Deal when the Court quite consciously saw its mission as protecting the 1 percent by ruling any meaningful attempt at regulating the economy unconstitutional.

Socialist Party Taps Stewart Alexander for President (tags)

Alexander, who prides himself on his working-class background, maintains that the Socialist Party historically has been ?the true representative of the Left,? a point he hopes to drive home not only to disillusioned progressives, but to millions of working-class and poor Americans who have been mercilessly pummeled during the current economic crisis ? a near-catastrophic downturn caused almost entirely by the recklessness and avarice of those on Wall Street and their overt enablers in the nation?s capital, Democrats and Republicans alike.

Request Filed to Inspect and to Copy US Supreme Court Electronic Records (tags)

The outcome of petitions and applications by individuals against government or corporation remained vague and ambiguous. The Office of the Clerk sent invalid letters, as notices of "denial", while no judicial records were found in the paper court files as valid foundation for such letter. So far, no public access was permitted to the judicial records in the electronic case management of the US Supreme Court.

Dems, Media Elite Overreacted to Gov. Sarah Palin (tags)

When John McCain picked Gov. Sarah Palin to be his VP running mate, most Americans yawned: “Sarah, Who?” Not the Democrats and the Media Elite. They tossed a first-class hissy fit. One of the worse offenders was the site, “HuffPost.” It even created a special page posting a lot ot negative rumors about the “working mom.” Meanwhile, GOP speakers, like the pro-Iraq War, pro-waterboarding Sen. Joe Lieberman, got off the hook with little criticism.

Veteran Journalist Robert Scheer Speaks in San Diego (tags)

Veteran progressive journalist Robert Scheer spoke in San Diego July 26 and 28 to promote his new book "The Pornography of Power," an exposé of the military-industrial complex and its continuing power to shape American economic and foreign policy and saddle us not only with weapons we don't need but also the irresistible temptation to use them.

No More Petitions - Just Action! (tags)

But take my word for it, if you want to see a change, GIVE UP ON CONGRESS doing the right thing. As it has been said, Democrats don't want to wrench excessive, ubiquitous, executive power away from the Republicans - they simply want it for themselves in just under two years.

Scott Ritter, back from Iran, in Venice 11/3 (tags)

Scott Ritter was right about the Bush administration's false claims concerning weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Therefore, everyone who cares about such issues should listen very carefully to what he has to say. Ritter has just returned from Iran.

Forget Compromising on Social Security; First Let's End Employer Theft of Worker Pensions (tags)

Compromise approaches to “saving” Social Security that involve voluntary private accounts on top of the current program are not going to help low-income workers. If Congress and the President really wanted to help protect low-income retirees, they’d end the legal theft of pension “vesting” so workers got pension contributions for every working day of their lives.

The Peace Movement Needs to Be More Militant, But Don't Write Off the Democrats Entirely (tags)

It was a mistake for the peace movement to give Kerry a pass during the campaign, and it needs to correct that error by becoming much more militant now. But that doesn't mean wholesale rejection of the Democratic Party.

Thousands Protest Bush's Inauguration (LA Photo) (tags)

Thousands of people in dozens of cities across the nation walked out of work and school, held mock coronations, intoned the names of the Iraq war dead and held candlelight vigils to show their disapproval of President Bush as he was sworn in for his second term. The protest remained peaceful and no arrests were reported. The bags are a reference to the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. (AP Photo/Ken Marchionno)

George W. Bush and his Watergate (tags)

"Bush's famous speech of January 2002 wherfe he described Iraq, Iran and North Korea as the axis of evil was written by David Frum, a neoconservative ally of Perle. The neoconservatives were the chief authors of Bush's war on terrorism since September 11.

NO A LA INTERVENCION DE ESTADOS UNIDOS EN VENEZUELA (tags)

NO TO UNITED STATES INTERVENTION IN VENEZUELA (tags)

A referendum to recall President Chavez as well as a number of anti-chavista elected officials is being called for August. US pressure to overthrow President Chavez and get its hands on the oil of the venezuelan people is greater than ever. We demand that the media report what is happening in Venezuela rather than act as employees of the hated and unelected Bush administration.

Dean and the world: the nonradical candidate (tags)

The real Dean, judging by his prepared speeches rather than his oral flubs, offers something much more like the bipartisan, Cold War, leader-of-the-free-world policy Americans know and remember. Whether that is the best policy for the post-9-11 world is another question. But at least let us stop pretending that in foreign policy, Dean is something radical. He is not.

Bring Them Home NOW (tags)

Another fine analysis from Stan Goff. We're not asking for any favors. We DEMAND. A great letter by Stan Goff, a former high-ranking special forces soldier, which criticizes "liberals" and anti-war activists for backing Dean. A great contribution to the "lesser evilism" debate.

Governor, You're No George McGovern (tags)

Dean favored an alternative war resolution (sponsored by Sens. Joseph Biden, D-Del., and Richard Lugar, R-Ind.) that differed little from the one that passed. True, Biden-Lugar called on Bush to seek a United Nations Security Council resolution authorizing the war, but it did not require Bush to obtain such a resolution, if the Security Council balked. In other words, Dean favored a congressional resolution authorizing exactly the course that Bush took.

Washington Post columnist discovers that Howard Dean is a warmonger like Bush (tags)

Howard Dean is no George McGovern. He opposed the Iraq war, he says, because it was "the wrong war at the wrong time," not because it was emblematic of a fundamentally misguided American foreign policy. Dean has not, in fact, challenged the reigning foreign policy paradigms of the post-9/11 era: the war on terrorism and the nexus between terrorism and rogue states with weapons of mass destruction. "I support the president's war on terrorism," he told Tim Russert this summer. He supported the war in Afghanistan. He even supported Israel's strike against a terrorist camp in Syria because Israel, like the United States, has the "right" to defend itself. (European Deanophiles take note.) Dean does not call for a reduction in American military power but talks about using the "iron fist" of our "superb military." He talks tough about North Korea and at times appears to be criticizing the Bush administration for not addressing that "imminent" threat more seriously. And he especially enjoys lacerating Bush for not taking the fight more effectively to al Qaeda, a bit like John F. Kennedy criticizing Eisenhower in 1960 for not being tough enough on communism.
