KPFK and Pacifica still in morras, chaos, financial turmoil....why ? (tags)
KPFK is still losing money, begging daily and irritating all who have pledged $$$$ and are stakeholders who turn away from what seems endless fractionalized disorder. Some info from available sources aboyt how the problems also emanate from 'the above' organziation's sludging on without any honest improvements or doing real elections to show the way....or stop requiring payments to this nat'l office that is killing off any local gains or attempts to reduce, never stop, the infighting.
Producers/Community Oppose Cancellation of MM (tags)
A small uprising took place to prevent the cancellation of KPFA morning mix local community programming and it's replacement by the KPFK show "Uprising" By Sonali Kolhatkar. A show was held at KPFA with all the producers and voices from the community about the replacement and marginalization of the locally produced programming from drive time to other times.

Pacifica management and KPFK and KPFA's manager Richard Pirodsky has enlisted KPFK host Sonali Kolhtatkar to support the cancellation of the Morning MIx locally produced community radio shows on KPFA so she can have a drive time slot. This has brought a torrent of anger of listeners and supporters of KPFA in Norther California and many are calling on Kolhatkar to abandon her plans to support the removal of KPFA local community programming on prime time. The newly appointed executive director Bernard Duncan was brought in by Pacifica Board Chair Margy Wilkinson despite the fact that he was discharged from KPFK for financial malfeasance. This was also supported by Dan Siegel and his law firm which is backing the cancellation of local community programming.

Events continue in the higher levels of a mixed-up Pacifica Fdtn with who is in charge and who is not and who has authority and who claims what. With most in Los Angeles not extending to keep up with details as others derail and destroy what was before a ‘radical’ variety of programming at KPFK, along with it’s sponsors, here are reposted excerpts to both advise, inform, and urge activism in any form an Indy reader will dare to help the mess from spilling over and out into KPFK and so into our lives here. Though the stories appear to emphasize the sibling station in Berkeley KPFA, the results affect our Local KPFK radio station 90.7 FM in LA equally, even when our station's ID is ignored in their stories. It was our own KPFK prior GM who was laddered Up into Pacifica's interim Exe Director position, but by Berkeley's group and it was not even discussed at the local KPFK LSB in April. Why ?

More confusing information appears to say that Bernard Duncan who thought he was moving UP some ladder, may have fallen off, gone to NZ to return home and his girlfriend, or gotten sick of all the mess served up at Pacifica ? Who knows what really happens when secrecy and silence and non-transparency reigns in this nonprofit and non-informative fdtn, never telling on itself and it's fluctuations ? How confusing. Where is the man now ? Why is he not fulfilling the apparent nomination to be interim Exe Director, seemingly authorized by KPFA people?

Pacifica is in broken shape, in at least two separate pieces: The Executive Directorship is allocated to 2 people by at least 2 groups. One is Summer Reese, [ a long time PNB chair and member, and she was contractually hired after many months working as interim ED ] and the other is Bernard Duncan, former KPFK general manager [ who claimed to be going to NZ to be with his girlfriend and he left his KPFK position months before his contract was up.]

Strange sightings are occurring…here in LA we have been told that the recent Gen’l Mgr of KPFK had resigned months before his contract was up in June, and left the station in March 2014 instead, with the KPFA Berkeley manager coming in as interim manager here. Now Bernard Duncan’s name has reappeared in some other suspicious circumstances that most of those who are KPFK sponsors/ subscribers/ members/ payers Do Not Understand, and Have Not Been Informed…at all ! Why is there no local transparency or an LA Town Hall meeting to explain, to hear and ask questions - and even if answers are not accurate or easy, for there to be available Discussion, Exposure, Information -vs silence and secrecy – yes, here where KPFK still exists and plays on air ...as if nothing else were going on behind some closed hallowed doors - secretly....unknown to us. We have no say, of course, no power, no input, no nutin but pay and wonder and worry. who are the players here and what are they doing ? in secret alliances ?
Videotaping KPFK's LSB meetings (tags)
KPFK's Local Station Board June 2011 meeting was very well conducted and chaired. At least two video-graphers were there and never shared why they were documenting the event nor how anyone could access their videos. This disturbs some of us who are "public members" supporters of the radio station and not content to stay "quiet" and docile either.
