David Neiwert is a journalist whose work has appeared in The Washington Post, Salon, and MSNBC.com. His latest book, "DEATH ON THE FOUR OF JULY: The Story of a Killing, a Trial, and Hate Crime in America", discusses hate crimes in a broad context as well as focusing on a particular July 4, 2000 incident in Ocean Shores, Washington.

In Murrieta tonight, we held a candlelight vigil that was, to the best of my knowledge, the first organized peace event in the valley between Elsinore and Temecula. A total of 72 people attended, everyone united with a common cause: peace.
