The Alliance Philippines vehemently condemn in the strongest terms the violent dispersal of informal settlers and urban poor communities in Paranaque by the Philippine National Police (PNP) last April 23. The violent dispersal of April 23 is characterized by violent fascist police tactics and deadly shooting is a carry-over of the fascist policies of dictator Marcos and GMA that cause the death of one person and the wounding of more than 30 others. Scores of people who resisted the brutal suppression were arrested by the PNP.

PESANTE Bulletin based in Los Angeles learned today that more than 8,000 residents of North Triangle , Quezon City ( formerly the capital of the Philippines) fought the demolition teams of the MMDA and the Police to a stand still and stopped the demolition of their homes yesterday. The PESANTE BULETIN said that rocks rained on the northbound lane of Edsa and traffic stood still on the busy thoroughfare for several hours as thousands of residents in Sitio San Roque, Barangay Bagong Pag-asa, Quezon City, thwarted a demolition team’s efforts to tear down their shanties Thursday morning.

The Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC) based in the United States condemns the P3 billion Quezon City Central Business District (QCCBD) project of the than World Bank itself. From its early inception WB has sold the idea of QCCBD as the mecca of new and forward looking economic development within Metro Manila area and outlying regions. Generally dubbed as a mixed-use commercial/residential/recreational district - the 250 hectare Triangle Park project will displace 16,000 poor families. Ironically the 37 hectare property where San Roque is nestled belongs to the National Housing Authority of the Philippines and is leased to Robinsons Land Corporation - one of the biggest mall and residential developer in the Philippines.
