Afghanistan : The "Graveyard of Empires" Strikes Back. Coalition Forces are in Retreat (tags)
"General McChrytal is sacked, General Petrayus has fainted, David Cameron's flight was diverted on his last visit to Afghanistan, due to the base he was going to visit being under sustained attack. He turned tail, so to speak, in mid-air and fled, whilst committing others to potential death sentences. The sign at the entrance to the British base at Sangin reads: "Welcome to Sangingrad." The name of David Loyn's excellent new book on Afghanistan, from which the Lepel Griffin quote is taken, is: "Butcher and Bolt." A recent newspaper heading read: "We can beat something in Afghanistan - a retreat."

“Rethink Afghanistan” Screens in San Diego (tags)
The Peace and Democracy Action Group of the First Unitarian-Universalist Church in Hillcrest recently screened Robert Greenwald’s hard-hitting 2009 documentary “Rethink Afghanistan,” which meticulously lists all the reasons given for the U.S.’s continuing and escalating military involvement in Afghanistan — from the alleged need to deny al-Qaeda “sanctuary” in the country to the supposed “liberation” of Afghan women — and demolishes them all. The March 18 screening was followed by a talk-back session with three members of the San Diego chapter of Veterans for Peace, who talked about their own experiences in Korea and Viet Nam and the similarities between how those wars were justified and sold to the American people and the current campaign to legitimize our Afghan campaign.
Obama's expanded war agenda
Defeat U.S. War on Afghanistan and Iraq! (tags)
On December 1, President Barack Obama officially announced a massive escalation of the U.S. war on Afghanistan, tripling the number of American military personnel there since Obama took office. This move marks a decision by Washington to continue the colonial occupation of Afghanistan indefinitely, and with it the bloody slaughter of the Afghan people. Obama’s claim that he would “begin the transfer” of U.S. forces by mid-2011 was just sucker bait for gullible liberals. “Afghanistan Is Now Obama’s War,” proclaimed the media from New York to London to Mumbai. But Afghanistan has been the Democrats’ war since the moment it was launched, in September 2001, and together with the war on Iraq, it is a bipartisan imperialist war. No one in Washington thinks the Afghan puppet army will be able to handle the Taliban. The actual U.S. strategy is not to defeat the Taliban but to weaken it enough so that elements of the Islamists can be brought into a political deal. It is striking that in the United States, a majority of the population is turning against the war even though there hasn’t been a major national antiwar march in more than two years – ever since the start of the last presidential election campaign. At protests following Obama’s announcement of more troops to Afghanistan, organizers carefully avoided any signs mentioning the president by name. Our Internationalist contingent, in contrast, carried signs including, “Hey Obama, How Many Kids Did You Kill Today? Defeat Imperialist Slaughter in Afghanistan, Iraq.”
Tell Your Reps to Sign On to Anti-War Letter to Obama (tags)
A recent letter initiated by a bipartisan coalition of eight anti-war Congress members urges President Obama to reconsider his choice of further military escalation in Afghanistan. The escalation of 30,000 additional troops sent to Afghanistan will only further destabilize the region by encouraging local Afghans to join the Taliban fighters as they offer the only real resistance to the occupation forcces and the overtly corrupt Karzai government.

""Our security has been weakened" (tags)
General Merrill McPeak, Air Force chief of staff under the first President Bush, says, until recently, he considered himself a loyal Republican -- “in 2000 I was a veteran for Bush. This administration has gone away from me [departed from my beliefs], not vice-versa"
This e-mail received from a good friend and he vouches for the authenticity of the message. As you read this, think about the murder rate on the streets of every metroplex in this nation. Summed up -- very likely in the double digits-daily. So why is there not the outrage exhibited by the Liberals in the media to match their outrage about our forces in Iraq? Do you suppose it is safer for our troops on the streets of Baghdad than it is for us on the streets of our large cities? Or is it the Vietnam card being replayed?
What Are Little Boys Made Of? (tags)
Lights, camera, action; live footage shows the military kicking down an isolated farm house door ordering the terrified peasant family, the elderly grandparents, little children and parents to kneel in the dirt their hands behind their backs. I feel sick and ashamed that the power-might-and untold blessings of my country, are being utilized in the subjugation, humiliation and terror towards people we've announced such altruistic concern for. Operation Iraq Freedom resembles Operation Bloodlust-Might Makes Right.
