The San Diego Alliance for Marriage Equality (S.A.M.E.) and Zenger’s Newsmagazine support the struggle of alleged WikiLeaker Private Manning against a U.S. government that held him in solitary confinement for nearly two years under conditions so arduous they constitute torture, and now is putting them on trial in a court-martial even though President Obama has already compromised the process by declaring them guilty. S.A.M.E. and Zenger’s also support Private Manning’s right to choose their own gender identity, and as a result we will not assign them a first name or any gender-specific references.
