BAYAN KO IS OF THE PEOPLE, NOT FOR THE AQUINOS (tags)
I was disturbed when I first heard the news article in TV Patrol World that featured the people’s song “ Bayan Ko” and how the report was so wrong and inaccurate. It wake me up to my full senses! The news feature said, “Bayan Ko” was a poem by Jose Corazon De Jesus and the lyrics was written during the Japanese occupation.” And then I got the shock of my life again, when in the newscast of the World Tonight, they repeated the same line in a different tune by saying that “the song was composed during the Japanese occupation.” I really wondered, how does the ABS-CBN does its research or their fact checked when they boast of good reporting? This is an outright error I cannot let pass.

Twenty-five years ago today, August 21, 1983, the armed minions of the US-Marcos dictatorship shot and killed Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. after arresting him inside the plane that took him home from his exile in the United States. Many articles have been written and will be written singing paeans to the late opposition leader and extolling him to high heavens but without understanding the reasons he went back to face his death in the Philippines.
On the Colombia “ Hostage Rescue” (tags)
n the American press media, the Colombian “hostage rescue” last July 3 that rescued three American servicemen was given prominence. The stress of the media especially the CNN was not only to hail the so called rescue mission as a success. It was also hailed for the rescue being bloodless and “not a single shot being fired.” Another stress of the media was the guerilla forces of FARC “ is finished” while at the same time maligning the revolutionary forces as “ narcotrafficers and terrorist” while at the same time pointing out that the 40-year struggle of the armed revolutionaries as “ the longest insurgency is southern hemisphere.
