KPFK may also be up on Chopping Block ? We need to get facts now ! (tags)
KPFA in Berkley is rumored to be For Sale= that means KPFK in Los Angeles goes out in same manner as Pacifica cannot survive without these 2 main radio stations. We, members, need to investigate and reveal what is KNOWN as facts, corroborated, or what sounds like ‘rumor’ but verifiable. Soon !
KPFK and Pacifica are runniing aground...more, again.... (tags)
KPFK and Pacifica are in a dangerous places, again. Careful. Here is a summary below reposted from the original writer's site. Visit there for more news stories also. And comment there as well.
Pacifica is also KPFK and scandals are being transparentized. (tags)
Revelations have been published at the 1 website that dares to tell more of the internal doings of each and all Pacifica 5 radio stations, nationwide. KPFK is always connected to the others. Financially and otherwise. What happens at it’s umbrella – Pacifica- located in Berkeley is vital to it’s survival. Some revealed emails between a prior PNB member and Pacifica’s atty-counsel is posted there. See below
KPFK RADIO is essential to Pacifica, who also umbrellas KPFA that may be falling away (tags)
KPFK is the prime radio station of 5 in Pacifica. KPFA in Berkeley seems to be acting illegally or secretly to separate OUT and away from Pacifica with 1 faction hiding their moves. This is here a repost to inform those who want KPFK in LA to continue and not fall prey to tactics used at it's sister station. Beware non-transparent games even within 'non-profit' corporations owned by stakeholders [ funders, pledge $ givers].this could be a warning of what may also be gamed with KPFKs existence. Learn more and share it too.
KPFK in Pacifica's meeting - more descriptions (tags)
These are excerpts REPOSTED for local LA listeners of KPFK - as to what else happens [not on-air-only presentations that are the slick surface of it all ] - written by a long-time prior dedicated PNB member.
The Pacifica Radio Network and "local control" (tags)
SaveKPFA are the majority caucus on the elected KPFA Local Station Board (LSB). Their delegates to the Pacifica National Board (PNB) are also in the majority there. "Local control" has always been a main plank of their platform, but in February, the PNB cast a vote that seemed to institutionalize the exact opposite.

Producers/Community Oppose Cancellation of MM (tags)
A small uprising took place to prevent the cancellation of KPFA morning mix local community programming and it's replacement by the KPFK show "Uprising" By Sonali Kolhatkar. A show was held at KPFA with all the producers and voices from the community about the replacement and marginalization of the locally produced programming from drive time to other times.
An Open Letter To Sonali Kolhatkar, Host Of Uprising On KPFK (tags)
Pacifica management and KPFK and KPFA's manager Richard Pirodsky has enlisted KPFK host Sonali Kolhtatkar to support the cancellation of the Morning MIx locally produced community radio shows on KPFA so she can have a drive time slot. This has brought a torrent of anger of listeners and supporters of KPFA in Norther California and many are calling on Kolhatkar to abandon her plans to support the removal of KPFA local community programming on prime time. The newly appointed executive director Bernard Duncan was brought in by Pacifica Board Chair Margy Wilkinson despite the fact that he was discharged from KPFK for financial malfeasance. This was also supported by Dan Siegel and his law firm which is backing the cancellation of local community programming.
Updating chaotic crumblings at Pacifica - affects KPFK too. (tags)
Events continue in the higher levels of a mixed-up Pacifica Fdtn with who is in charge and who is not and who has authority and who claims what. With most in Los Angeles not extending to keep up with details as others derail and destroy what was before a ‘radical’ variety of programming at KPFK, along with it’s sponsors, here are reposted excerpts to both advise, inform, and urge activism in any form an Indy reader will dare to help the mess from spilling over and out into KPFK and so into our lives here. Fuller information is available at the links provided here. Note that excerpts are for *Relevant Clarification * and those that may be pertinent how KPFK in LA is affected by what else is currently being disputed, declared and not questioned. The many detracting claims and counterclaims affect the operations and functionings of Pacifica Fdtn and it’s 5 stations, More specific detailed info can be read in the entire articles/ reports written by Tracy Rosenberg at the links included at facebook: “United for Community Radio KPFA “. Though the stories appear to emphasize the sibling station in Berkeley KPFA, the results affect our Local KPFK radio station 90.7 FM in LA equally, even when our station's ID is ignored in their stories. It was our own KPFK prior GM who was laddered Up into Pacifica's interim Exe Director position, but by Berkeley's group and it was not even discussed at the local KPFK LSB in April. Why ?
Has KPFK's GM Duncan just dis-appeared? (tags)
More confusing information appears to say that Bernard Duncan who thought he was moving UP some ladder, may have fallen off, gone to NZ to return home and his girlfriend, or gotten sick of all the mess served up at Pacifica ? Who knows what really happens when secrecy and silence and non-transparency reigns in this nonprofit and non-informative fdtn, never telling on itself and it's fluctuations ? How confusing. Where is the man now ? Why is he not fulfilling the apparent nomination to be interim Exe Director, seemingly authorized by KPFA people?
Pacifica Exe Director position is in confusion still putting KPFK at risk (tags)
Pacifica is in broken shape, in at least two separate pieces: The Executive Directorship is allocated to 2 people by at least 2 groups. One is Summer Reese, [ a long time PNB chair and member, and she was contractually hired after many months working as interim ED ] and the other is Bernard Duncan, former KPFK general manager [ who claimed to be going to NZ to be with his girlfriend and he left his KPFK position months before his contract was up.]
More Info about Pacifica, which holds KPFK's license, etc. (tags)
– More than is visible in any informative[vs. those preferring to attack] LA medium . So here are some reposts - parts of what is on URL that appears to be about KPFA in Berkeley but that also affects all PACIFICA FDTN stations equally. The confusion, conflict about the Exe Director Reese has opened up the box and more info is being revealed, finally ! These links and information is intended to be Shared, Exposed, Discussed, and later Resolved too. Not to set up more conflicts or malicious actions, please !
Listen to KPFK's staff talking to Pacifica Exe Director (tags)
Listen to a KPFK interview with Summer Reese a few nights ago, produced and interview by Roy Tuckman and Eben Rey, available on Soundcloud. Interesting to have direct verbal vocal information instead of so many other internet shades of grease that proliferate in trying to form stories and gossip and biased versions of what happened to whom. The direct person involved in the personnel issues of Pacifica are discussed here. KPFK listeners called in and added opinions also. Can the whole organization be saved and healed and repaired so it will not repeat [and again and again] ???

A Network At War (tags)
Since ostensiblly winning a campaign to recapture the small progressive Pacifica network that spanned years, involving at one time three seperate lawsuits, and 10's of thousands of its active listerners, the tiny network is once again at war with itself.....Having, along with senior producer Ryme Kakthouda, joined in filing complaints of discrimination on basis of national origin and ethnicity at the last meeting of our national board in NYC, (http://dc.indymedia.org/newswire/display/120524/index.php) and with women angry about sexism, and the networks failure to do anything more than deny its existence, planning an actual march on Berkley to file similar complaints next month, all matters likely to head into litigation within a matter of weeks now, this seemed like a good time to carve up all the sacred cows.

Pacifica Radio: FREEDOM TO SPEAK LARRY BENSKY'S LANGUAGE! (tags)
Many people in the KPFA listener community in the San Francisco Bay Area have asked me, Joseph Anderson, for a copy of my UC Berkeley "Daily Californian" newspaper guest column on Pacifica Radio's KPFA character Larry Bensky. At the time of its original publication, I knew nothing about Bensky other than how he came across on the air. I guess it is time for a confirming retrospective. Bensky hasn't changed a bit. This was written during the Pacifica Radio crisis of 1999, when Bensky was fired (thanks to *me*, now it can be told!). I immediately notified and talked to Mary Berry, then, about his insubordination and symbolically offered to let her have Bensky in exchange for Pacifica Radio back. But, it was still nice to have someone Black shut *Bensky* up!

KPFA: Ralph Schoenman's analysis on 9-11 hearings and BIG PICTURE (tags)
Ralph Schoenman provides a sharp summary of state-sponsored terrorism, 9-11 and this week's Congressional hearings in context; 30 minute informal talk with Bonnie Faulkner, KPFA producer of "Guns & Butter," broadcast today on KPFA/KFCF (mp3 format). You may not agree with all of his views or analysis, but as a practice the methodology of review of "threads" reported in mainstream media and assembled into a picture--even if others squawk conspiracy theory--provides insight into the ruling elite dynamics, even if you don't subscribe to the full breadth of any given "conspiracy theory." It's important to question and dig - to keep an open mind - this information is presented in that spirit as you'll never find these views in the mainstream. Older talks / radio programs can be found at the "Taking Aim" link herein

"A Liar...A Cheater...Physically Abusive" (tags)
Many tried to warn Pacifica about KPFK's new General Manager, Eva Georgia, but nobody listened. The Pacifica Radio Network, with five stations and numerous affiliates, has seen enough trouble over the last three years. It was left with a $4.8 million debt and in a state of organizational chaos by a corrupt board of directors that was mercifully removed last December by a determined army of reformers and four lawsuits.

Instead, KPFA has over $100,000 in unpaid and overdue bills, including $9,400 to PG&E for electricity. The station may be off the air if the PG&E bill is not paid by Monday, October 22.
