NTAC URGES CONGRESS TO PASS HATE CRIMES BILL WITH TRANS INCLUSION IMMEDIATELY On Friday, May 21, Republican Gov. John Rowland put pen to paper and signed a bill that will extend anti-violence laws to cover crimes committed against transgendered and disabled citizens in Connecticut. The National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC) celebrated the enactment, and simultaneously issued a call for amendment and enactment of a similarly defined bill on the federal level.

On Tues., Nov. 18, the senate confirmed a promotion of Major General Robert T. Clark to the rank of Lieutenant General, the Army's second highest rank. The senate confirmation drew rancor from the nation’s major Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Organizations, including the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC).

California Governor Gray Davis presented the gift of freedom to thousands of his fellow Californians on Saturday, August 2nd. In signing AB196, which clarifies the state’s Fair Employment and Housing Act by including gender-identity and expression, Governor Davis brings California into a leadership position of a growing human rights struggle. California now becomes the most populous jurisdiction to enact equal rights for transgendered citizens.
