Manalo took the witness stand for the second time to testify that he had been in detention together with the two missing University of the Philippines (UP) students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeño and farmer Manuel Marino who were abducted June 26, 2007 in the province of Bulacan. The writ of amparo filed by the parents of Cadapan and Empeño has made headway as Manalo identified one of their captors in open court. Unable to obtain justice in Mexico, and failed by other institutions – the civilian public prosecution services and civilian courts - this case, and that of Valentina Rosendo Cantú, another indigenous woman from Guerrero who was reportedly raped by soldiers a few days earlier on 16 February 2002, have been submitted to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR, Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos).
While the daily headlines report that we need more soldiers in Iraq, I know one soldier that would disagree. For 22-year old Specialist Roy Alan Gray, there were more than enough soldiers here when the task at hand was to save his life.
Sick, Wounded U.S. Troops Held in Squalor (tags)
Hundreds of sick and wounded U.S. soldiers including many who served in the Iraq war are languishing in hot cement barracks here while they wait -- sometimes for months -- to see doctors.
Besides cutting veteran's benefits and forcing wounded soldiers to pay for hospital meals, this is another indication of how the US ruling class views the soldiers who fight for their profits and power overseas. They are disposable. Also, it is an indication of the effects of depleted uranium.
