The choice by President Obama of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense is a step in the correct direction. Finally people can see that there is another segment of the Republican party that is NOT endorsing never ending military conflict in the Middle East as the neo-conservative factions have under eight years of war criminal GW Bush.

Despite promises of "change" from the GW Bush regime foreign policy of interventionism, President Obama has chosen to follow the path of his predecessor GW by continuing the use of CIA drones to attack terrorist and "accidental" civilian targets. By killing innocent civilians along with their targets, CIA drones increase anger and thus aid in recruitment to terrorist organizations ("blowback"), thereby making more enemies and justification of an expensive military strategy that only benefits military weapons contractors.

The BP oil blowout is an environmental catastrophe, bringing great peril to marine and wildlife in the Gulf and threatening ecosystems of the planet. The spill is still out of control and spreading. It jeopardizes communities and livelihoods. The government and BP have proven unable and unwilling to stop the disaster, protect the Gulf, or even tell the truth. The people must come together now to stop this nightmare.
