the urgency of to have a full QUORUM of voters before Jan 4, 2016 is being announced on Radio Station KPFK, 90.7 Fm in L.A. that has a broadcast reach past this county into San Diego, and Santa Barbara and is also sponsored by listeners on it’s website at http://KPFK.org. KPFK needs your VOTE ! or lose it. (tags)
KPFK and Pacifica Elections must meet a very minimum quorum/ amount of voters who Vote and participate, or the expenses [about $25,000?] are wasted and same-old Board members happily stay stuck in place, out of legitimate time but clinging to power-positions. so VOTE if you qualify for their minimum contribution made this [fiscal] year. Call to inquire for more info at 818-985-2711 day hrs. or see www.KPFK.org for minimum info there.

KPFK is an integral part of Pacifica... problems infect our LA station. (tags)
KPFK is an integral part of Pacifica... problems infect our LA station. Indymedia appears to be the only site where updates and iinformation-sharing on what is happening on extentions of what is OUR RADIO station - paid for by subscribers/ stakeholders ! - KPFK. The dearth of access, transparency and discussion in LA anywhere on line speaks to the secrecy and denial with impunity that is occuring daily in our radio sphere, while demanding more and more $$$$ from us ...or else.. here is more to learn, ask, share and perhaps even to get involved in any ways possible - including attending the confict-full, argumentative, and uncourteous harrangues at the Local Station Board on March 22, 1 pm in WLA See KPFK.org for details, under 'events'.

Pacifica clearly endangered. Reposting info here: (tags)
This is a repost of an email being made available to many who care about keeping the Pacifica 5 stations together vs. some PNB members who want to sell off 3 ailing radio stations to maintain the remaining 2 in California. - - - - - - - If you want to : Please sign their court petition at http://www.jotformpro.com/PDGG/petition Otherwise, the information contained in this reposting may update what else is secreted and not-known-in-LA because there is no transparency, no openness and only requests for $$$ pledges by local KPFK.
Pacifica voting in secret with no accountability? Is this part of KPFK ? (tags)
Counterpunch is now publishing wrong info ? Who gave them that information about Pacifica? How confusing. Another commentator disclosed here at Indymedia how Pacifica Nat'l Bd voted to deselect the hired Exe Director. But the numbers and facts never add up correctly. Nor can results be explained and no names of voters are named. And KPFK's Local Station Board meetings have a fight club mentality and provides no factual helpful information either. Ask their LSB for more accurate info here: firstname.lastname@example.org

Echo Park Moms 4 Education: URGENT - Parent Wake-Up Call on Tuesday May 10th!!! (tags)
LAUSD's Public School Choice is already an anti-democratic measure to give public schools away to private charter corporations. Removing the advisory vote makes PSC all the more totalitarian and entirely removes community and parental voice. Either keep the advisory votes or repeal PSC altogether.
Fielding a local reporter's questions about Camino Nuevo Charter Corporation's designs on (tags)
Now that Philip Anschutz's LAUSD Board Member from District 5 gave CRES #14 to CNCA Corporation, we see the true intransigence and arrogance of a CMO. For over a month we've asked CNCA to write into their charter the availability of at least a Mainstream English program in addition to their Transitional Bilingual Program. CNCA Corporation, and Yolie Flores - who promised the rest of the board she would insure it was implemented - have ignored the community. As with all corporate charters, CNCA is concerned with their bottom line alone.

On LAUSD's urgent need to pressure CNCA to revise the CRES #14 charter (tags)
When LAUSD V.P. Flores awarded CRES #14 to Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) against the wishes and explicit votes of the Echo Parque community, and against the express recommendation of the Superintendent, she promised she would address the grievously problematic issues with CNCA's proposal regarding their exclusive and inflexible language program. Instead, nothing has been done to resolve this major point of contention between the corporate charter school operator and the community they will soon occupy.
Queer Democrats Oppose Initiative to Add Non-Elected Members to School Board (tags)
Two multimillionaires, Qualcomm founder Irwin Jacobs and hedge-fund CEO Rod Dammeyer, are sponsoring an initiative called “San Diegans 4 Great Schools” to add four non-elected members to the board of the San Diego Unified School District. The predominantly Queer San Diego Democratic Club debated this initiative March 24 and passed a motion urging voters not to sign to put it on the ballot. Among their concerns were the potential dilution of voter input on the school board, the presence of the president of Roman Catholic Church-owned University of San Diego on the panel of nine people making the appointments, and the ways paid signature gatherers routinely lie about what initiatives will do in order to get people to sign them. The club heard from Scott Himmelmeyer, USD employee and spokesperson for the initiative, as well as current school board president Richard Barrera speaking for and against it, respectively.

Town-Hall Meeting Bitterly Critical of Pride Board (tags)
San Diego's annual Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Pride celebrations have been jeopardized by a community controversy over a $5,000 payment authorized by the board to its chair, Dr. Philip Princetta. The board fired Pride's executive director, Ron deHarte, on January 5, one day after he wrote a letter calling the payment "self-dealing" and questioning its legality. Two other Pride staff members resigned in support, and on Sunday, January 10 members of San Diego's Queer and Queer-allied communities had a chance to weigh in on the controversy. With none of the current board members there to hear the community speakers or express their own version of the events, the meeting turned into a series of condemnations of the board members and a vote to ask that deHarte be reinstated — but many people there were frustrated that the structure of the board doesn't give the community any recourse that doesn't also hurt the Pride events themselves.
Pride Goeth Before a Fall (tags)
The current controversy over San Diego LGBT Pride is not only jeopardizing the future of the Pride events and potentially pitting board members against community volunteers in a potentially ruinous conflict, it's also opening doors for a real reconsideration of how Pride should be run and what its purpose should be. The author argues for an end to the self-perpetuating board of directors that currently runs Pride, a membership organization made up of volunteers and contributors, and a rethinking of the Pride events to emphasize community outreach and a celebration of Pride's liberationist origins as well as moneymaking and entertainment.
