The Colorado Palestine Coalition, which, composed of Colorado-based advocacy groups for Palestine, has organized many of these events, and is campaigning against the Jewish National Fund (JNF)’s upcoming global conference which will be held in Denver this November. The JNF will host its annual global conference at the Denver Convention Center from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3. The conference will feature the Israeli ambassador to the U.N. Gilad Erdan, former Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren, Colorado Governor Jared Polis and a host of other speakers. Abdullah Elagha, a Palestinian activist working with the coalition, saw the conference as a chance for direct action in Denver. “Now there’s a face of the occupation that’s coming here, to our city … as we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks, Denver opposes this,” Elagha said. “Denver does not stand with apartheid states, period.”

This week's Nepal donor conference pledged $4.4 billion in aid to Nepal, short of the $6.6 billion Nepal requested for earthquake recovery. About half of the total financing is loans and half is grants. Nepal did not receive any pledges of debt relief while world leaders gathered in Kathmandu. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said Thursday Nepal will not qualify for its new emergency debt relief trust fund. "The initial aid pledges are helpful and we can close the $2 billion gap quickly with debt relief," said Eric LeCompte, Executive Director of the religious development organization Jubilee USA Network. "One of the quickest ways that the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and governments can deliver rebuilding grants is by canceling debt." Nepal spends $600,000 a day paying its debt, or more than $35 million since the first April earthquake. The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank pledged a combined $1.1 billion in new concessional loans and grants. Nepal already owes the World Bank and Asian Development Bank approximately $3 billion. Although the World Bank has not announced plans for a debt relief fund, the IMF created the Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust in the wake of the Ebola crisis and cancelled $100 million of West Africa's debt. IMF spokesperson Gerry Rice said Thursday Nepal met the first requirement for relief but that the earthquake did not cause enough total economic damage. Rice did not reference whether or not damage to Nepal's "productive capacity" pulled another trigger for the fund to release about $23 million in debt relief.

The US Senate has voted to use part of the savings from federal construction projects to replenish the nearly-depleted Filipino Veterans Equity Fund. The Senate voted 60-35 to use $67 million out of an estimated $103 million in savings allocated to the Department of Veterans Affairs to help the aging Filipino veterans. President Obama signed last year a Congress bill that set aside $198 million from the economic stimulus fund for the Filipino veterans. That amount was computed on the assumption that only 18,000 Filipino World War II veterans were left in the US and the Philippines. The fund would pay $15,000 for Filipino veterans living in the US, and $9,000 for those living in the Philippines.

Riad Hamad was the founder of the Palestine Children’s Welfare Fund http://www.pcwf.org/ and raised millions of dollars through his organization for schools, charitable organizations and hospitals. Local police say Hamad was found gagged and bound in the lake. While police say he “likely committed suicide”, questions have been raised over his death. No charges were filed at the time, but investigators claimed they “had probable cause” to investigate. Riad Hamad was fifty-five years old.

Appalachians are suffering in areas of mainly parts of 4 states with large areas of Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. This is where the poverty and lack of support is hurting the worst. Secondarly outside corporations are locating in these areas or leaving these areas with little or no regard for laws that were meant to protect these peoples. The federal government is robbing the Black Lung fund according to the Nation Magazine.
