FEDS THREATEN TO REVOKE ALEX SANCHEZ BAIL FOR SUPPORTING SALVADORAN PEACE PROCESS (tags)
US prosecutors have threatened to revoke Homies Unidos leader Alex Sanchez' bail and return him to prison for his part in supporting a truce between imprisoned gang members in El Salvador. The prosecutors are seeking to prevent Sanchez fromappearing in San Francisco this weekend at the opening of a Culture Clash play, "Placas", based loosely on Sanchez' long journey from gang-banger to peacemaker.
Each speech President Obama has delivered since his inauguration seems to paint a picture of change that is being created on the fly. I believe that – by nature of our humanity – we are all artists, and that we can all add a spontaneous stroke here or there to this potential masterpiece. But our current circumstances, as you will read in the below Op-Ed piece, present a serendipitous opportunity for public audiences to participate in community-based theater, and through that, to collaboratively address our social problems. The Democrats are threatening deep cuts in the state's budget. The FIRST to go will be funding for Art. Gov. Gray Davis first said he would slash the California Arts Council by 79%... now there is talk of eliminating it entirely. Which makes the following that much more important.
