HOLLYWOOD - For the second consecutive year, Los Angeles anarchists organized a bookfair, which, in addition to facilitating exchanges between vendors and literature-hungry readers, also provided an array of panel discussions, workshops, and most importantly, quality interactions with fellow activists in the liberation movement.

LA Mobilizes Defense of Former Black Panthers (tags)
Jericho Amnesty Coalition LA and many other organizations are mobilizing to support the 8 former members of the Black Panther Party arrested last week on charges related to the killing of a police officer in SF in 1971. The charges had previously been dismissed against some of the men because the evidence against them was extracted by torture. Jericho will show "Legacy of Torture" a film about these brothers on February 17, 4-7 pm, at the Southern California Library, 6120 S. Vermont, in LA.

Since COINTELPRO was used mainly against the progressive movements of the 1960s, its impact can be grasped only in the context of the momentous social upheaval which shook the country during those years. All across the United States, Black communities came alive with renewed political struggle. Most major cities experienced sustained, disciplined Black protest and massive ghetto uprisings. Black activists galvanized multi-racial rebellion among GIs, welfare mothers, students, and prisoners.
