According to its own mouthpiece, ABC news, the Australian spy agency (ASIO) has embarked on a recruitment drive:
Thursday, December 28, 2006. 11:37am (AEDT) “The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) is looking to recruit at least 170 people this financial year. The number of ASIO officers from non-english speaking backgrounds has more than doubled since 2004, and the organisation is looking for people with diverse backgrounds to conduct counter-terrorism and counter-espionage work. The intelligence organisation spent more than $2 million on recruitment advertising in 2005-6. The Federal Attorney-General, Phillip Ruddock, says funding for ASIO has also increased considerably. "I think we have now something of the order of 1,200 staff and that's double the number it had in 2000-2001 and we are continuing with a very active program that will expand the organisation in the near future to reach something in the order of 1,500-1,600 people," he said. http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200612/s1818848.htm
‘Honeypot’ for Keelty and Ruddock (tags)
We have recently received some unverifiable information from our government sources regarding a purported obsession shared by Mick Keelty and Philip Ruddock. The information referred to the existence of a “missing category” of terrorist activity, the existence of which has been severely hampering the ability of both regulatory authorities to adequately fulfil their social obligations. Keelty and Ruddock, in their quest for tighter social regulation, have encountered certain aberrations in the social matrix, the cause of which remains a mystery!

The Australian Attorney General, Philip Ruddock, once again demonstrates who and what he is; not content with making a thorough ass of himself in the recent past [link below] Ruddock now attempts to redeem himself by making a grab for the title of totalitarian buffoon of the new century. Australia now holds the dubious distinction of being the first developed (first world) ‘democratic’ nation in the new century to ban books! These blatant totalitarian tactics place Ruddock in interesting company; Chinese Cultural Revolution, Pol Pot year zero, Nazi book burnings, etc; Hello, Mr. Orwell!

Philip Ruddock, Australian Attorney General, announced today that a broader range of people in the Australian community (non-Muslims) are to be targeted as “terrorists!” Ruddock also stated that persons who are not ‘terrorists’ need not be alarmed as his new wider classification should not concern ‘them’(?) Australian citizens are left to conclude that the determination of who exactly is a terrorist has become an arbitrary prerogative of the Attorney General and his gang of enforcers! Whatever happened to due process, innocent until PROVEN guilty? {God help that journalist who stepped on Ruddock’s toe, he will be the first to go!) It is not coincidental that the Bush regime also found due process to be an inconvenience. Ruddock’s logic and methods reek of neo-con methods, Guantanamo (Torture) Bay and Bush regime criminal methodologies have found expression in Oz.
