CORPORATE MEDIA IS COMING TO HOME (tags)
Capital’s most severe crisis in seventy years ought to be a moment of significant opportunity for the left. But as the right mobilizes disgruntled Americans via its vast radio, television, web, and print empires, the one mass medium available to the left is driving out its best and brightest.

Winter Soldier Southwest on YouTube #1 (tags)
On Saturday, May 9, 2009 Iraq Veterans Against the War held hearings about war crimes and the abuse of our soldiers. The Winter Soldier Southwest heard from many American vets of the Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam and well as the victims of war and the families of vets. The Gold Star Families, Military Families Speak Out, Veterans For Peace, Vietnam Veterans for Peace and the Iraq Veterans for Peace were all represented. This is the testimony of Ryan Endicott about his experiences in Iraq.
[I]f your going to support a candidate who doesn't represent any of the values you believe in, then you can't have too many bloodthirsty war criminals endorsing him.
[B]oth Messrs. Obama and McCain are reiterating their commitment to good, old-fashioned American-style war making. . . . Rather than offering relief, the new entrant to the White House come January is likely to simply exacerbate the mayhem.

Chris Hedges Exposes U.S. War Crimes in Iraq (tags)
Chris Hedges, author of "War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning" and co-author of the new book "Collateral Damage: America's War Against Iraqi Civilians," spoke in San Diego June 25 and expressed his disillusion with the American political system in general and the Democratic party in particular. He said he's not going to vote for either Barack Obama or John McCain because neither will completely withdraw U.S. forces from Iraq.
Anti-War Campaigners Have to Change Electoral Tactics (tags)
‘So?” So said Dick Cheney when asked last week about public opinion being overwhelmingly against the war in Iraq. “You can’t be blown off course by polls.” A few days later, his attitude, about the fact that the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq has reached 4,000, displayed similar levels of sympathy. They “voluntarily put on the uniform,” the vice-president told ABC news. This brick wall of indifference helps explain the paradox in which we in the US anti-war camp find ourselves five years into the occupation of Iraq: anti-war sentiment is as strong as ever, but our movement seems to be dwindling. Sixty-four per cent of Americans tell pollsters they oppose the war, but you’d never know it from the thin turnout at recent rallies and vigils.

March 13-16: Winter Soldier - Watch and Listen to Eyewitness Accounts (tags)
Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan will be broadcast live. Here's how you can watch and listen:
WINTER SOLDIER: Iraq & Afghanistan (tags)
WINTER SOLDIER: Iraq & Afghanistan, Eyewitness Accounts of the Invasions, March 13-16, 2008, Washington, D.C. In 1776, Thomas Paine wrote: "These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman." In 1971, a courageous group of veterans exposed the criminal nature of the Vietnam War in an event called Winter Soldier. Once again, we will demand that the voices of veterans are heard. Once again, we are fighting for the soul of our country. We will demonstrate our patriotism by speaking out with honor and integrity instead of blindly following failed policy. Winter Soldier is a difficult but essential service to our country. Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan will feature testimony from U.S. veterans who served in those occupations, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground. The four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence. In addition, there will be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony. These panels will cover everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support. www.ivaw.org
