Movie Review: Dirty Wars (tags)

Jeremy Scahill, reporter for such outlets as The Nation and Democracy Now, has come out with the most hard hitting documentary of recent years entitled, “Dirty Wars.” He takes us around the globe from Afghanistan to Yemen and Somalia documenting the crimes of U.S imperialistic foreign policy in tragic detail.

Hanna: An "Alternative" Movie Review (as more interesting and informative than your typica (tags)

This review is not meant to give you all the typical facts and highlights of the movie. Standard movie reviewers have already presented their perspectives, the basic story line. Whereas this essay is meant to take more seriously what is really a rather stupid plot, but still within a beautiful movie and action packed piece of entertainment, and to speculate how it may fit ?within? the too often vacuous audience culture that might watch it, as well as the movie industry that created it and critiqued it. And, granted, it is often presumptuous to interpret a work of art as something that can be criticized as more subjectively serious?but the idea of juxtaposing a fairy tale with CIA operatives is just too tempting to ?not? deconstruct.

CHE 1 and 2: A Movie Review (tags)

Che movies are becoming the guide posts of my personal journeys - an assumption that I'm sure my fellow travelers will understand and if you're like me who was swept away by Guevarra's romanticism at a very young age, I bet you can book end your political life with distinct adaptations of the "guerilleros" life. At least mine has to be moved a tad to the right to squeeze in another chapter - I saw Soderbergh's Part 2 last night at Sunset Plaza in the Westside.

"VALKYRIE”- A CASE STUDY OF A FAILED COUP (tags)

Valkyrie can pass as a suspense thriller even if the people know in the first what is the result. It is always nice to know how men of principles act and improvise in their greatest moment of decision or indecision.

Valkryie- A Lesson in Failed Coup (tags)

Tom Cruise did it again. Acting an off-beat role of a historical character, an aristocratic Catholic German officer-Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg who tried to assassinate Hitler during World War II, Cruise did more than his best to do justice to the man and his role. Definitely “Valkyrie” is better than “The Last Samurai” because it is not only historically true and accurate but it really dramatize the facts.
