Weekly Demonstration Against Sleazy Banks (tags)
“We were trying to figure out a way to get The People interested in supporting the financial reform effort. We thought the main reason why people weren't talking about it was because they thought it had nothing to do with them or their daily lives. That's why we chose a focus on the foreclosure crisis--the economic collapse was caused by banks and financial institutions gambling on mortgages via Wall Street. . . ." -- Heather Meyer, organizer

More than 20,000 Responds to Emergency Protestat Historic Sunset Junction (tags)
More than 20,000 protestors converged about 6 p.m. last Nov. 8 at Sunset and Santa Monica boulevards in Silver Lake near the site of the former Black Cat bar, which the city recently designated a historic-cultural monument for its '60s role as home of the local gay rights movement. Thousands of people over the past few days have come out in the streets of Los Angeles and other cities to protest the passage of Prop. 8 This is the militant response to the well-funded right-wing campaign of bigotry trying to push millions of LGBT people back into the closet The march's organizers, the L.A. Coalition for Equal Marriage Rights and the Answer Coalition closed Sunset between Fountain and Sanborn avenues for about two hours as marchers moved west on Santa Monica, north on Vermont Avenue, then east on Hollywood Boulevard back to Silver Lake. Later a smaller group headed toward Hollywood. The Silver Lake rally began with fiery speeches from the bed of the ANSWER-LA truck. AJLPP ,Pro people Youth(KmB),Pesante-USA and JFAV activist were active at the rally and march flying the Filipino flag..

The AJLPP is deeply angered by the well-funded right-wing campaign of bigotry that is trying to push millions of LGBT people back into the closet. What the right cannot win in a fair elections are being done by deceit and manipulations through vaguely worded propositions like PROP 8! AJLPP expresses militant solidarity with those who came out in a massive mass action last night in Los Angeles and in San Francisco against Prop 8. We promise more mass action and other means to fight these wrong and unjust measures.

Silverlake Film Festival screens The END of SUBURBIA (tags)
The END of SUBURBIA is arguably the most important documentary of the decade. If you haven't seen it yet, this is your chance to see it and meet some great speakers on this topic. We are entering a new era in humanity - we are at or just near the global peak in oil production and our modern society is extremely dependant on oil and we are totaly unprepared for the decline in oil production. The END of SUBURBIA is very successful at introducing the topic in an entertaining way. There are many ways we, as a community, can respond, but first we must educate ourselves and understand the crisis. The guests at these events include Julian Darley (author of High Noon for Natural Gas and founder of The Post Carbon Institute and Global Public Media), Michael Ruppert (a Los Angeles local who founded www.fromthewilderness.com and is very active in the 9/11 truth movement and educating people about peak oil) , Gregory Greene (The END of SUBURBIA director), Joan Stevens (LA Permaculture Guild leader) and Lara Morrison (LA Eco-Village leader).
