PACIFICA RADIO BOARD SECRETLY OK'S BANKRUPTCY FILING & SEEKS NY SIGNAL SWAP (tags)
In secret meetings on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, the Pacifica Foundation National Board, which governs the 5-station nonprofit progressive radio network, voted over strong opposition to authorize its executives to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and initiate an effort to make a lucrative deal to swap the frequency of iconic New York station WBAI with another station holding a less desirable signal position.

KPFK RADIO is essential to Pacifica, who also umbrellas KPFA that may be falling away (tags)
KPFK is the prime radio station of 5 in Pacifica. KPFA in Berkeley seems to be acting illegally or secretly to separate OUT and away from Pacifica with 1 faction hiding their moves. This is here a repost to inform those who want KPFK in LA to continue and not fall prey to tactics used at it's sister station. Beware non-transparent games even within 'non-profit' corporations owned by stakeholders [ funders, pledge $ givers].this could be a warning of what may also be gamed with KPFKs existence. ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’: Log Cabin Republicans Arguments - "handwaving" (tags)
In their opposition to the Motion to Intervene, the Log Cabin Republicans failed to do the obvious - produce the Certificate of the October 2010 Judgment. Of significance also is the lack of opposition to the intervention by the US Department of Justice, and the ongoing refusal of the US District Court to produce the Certificate.
‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’: Request to Dismiss Appeals from an Uncertified Judgment, on Docket (tags)
The Motion and concomitantly filed papers have not addressed the controversial ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy itself, and have not sided with either of the parties in the case - the Log Cabin Republicans, or the US Department of Justice. Instead, the Motion has limited itself to arguments regarding the validity, or lack thereof, of the uncertified October 2010 Judgment, from which the appeals were taken. The motion has also addressed the validity, or lack thereof of the docket of the US District Court, Central District of California in the case, as a whole, and the implementation of the US District Court’s online public access and case management systems (PACER and CM/ECF).

Queer Democrats Oppose Flagship Budget Compromise Proposition (tags)
The predominantly Queer San Diego Democratic Club voted overwhelmingly on March 26 to oppose Proposition 1A, centerpiece of the budget reform compromise adopted by the California legislature last January. Though 1A would extend the state's temporary tax increases from two years to four, club members decided that the price -- notably vastly increased veto powers for the governor, new corporate tax breaks and a "rainy-day fund" that could lead to cutbacks in major state programs -- wasn't worth it. The club also opposed Proposition 1D, suppported 1B, 1E and 1F, and took no position on 1C.
For Workers Strikes Against the War! ILWU to Shut Down West Coast Ports May 1 Against War (tags)
In a major step for the U.S. labor movement, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has announced that it will shut down West Coast ports on May 1, to demand an immediate end to the war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Middle East.
ILWU to Shut Down West Coast Ports May 1 Demanding End to War in Iraq, Afghanistan (tags)
This is the first time in decades that an American union has decided to undertake industrial action against a U.S. war. The action announced by the powerful West Coast dock workers union, to stop work to stop the war, should be taken up by unions and labor organizations throughout the United States and internationally. And the purpose of such actions should be not to beg the bourgeois politicians whose hands are covered with blood, having voted for every war budget for six and a half years, but a show of strength of the working people who make this country run, and who can shut it down!

Europe’s ‘Green’ militarists (tags)
The days when the German Green Party opposed international military operations by Germany’s armed forces, or at least criticized them, have long since passed. After seven years in government, the party has returned to the opposition benches, but it has by no means returned to its former pacifist positions. The Greens are among the most avid proponents of a German military mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, one that could easily become the most extensive and dangerous foreign operation conducted by German soldiers since World War II.

High-Tech Torture Lawsuit Headed For Appeals Court (tags)
Federal Judge Virginia A. Mathis dismissed Charles A. Schlund's lawsuit against George W. Bush late last year – without a legitimate reason for doing so. Charles Schlund is going to appeal Judge Mathis' decision. Charles Schlund is a whistleblower and political witness who is being subjected to *high-tech* [i.e. electronic] torture by the U.S. government, in order to prevent him from exposing the *massive* corruption of the Bush administration. The information that Charles Schlund has is far more damaging to George W. Bush than anything that Jack Abramoff has, and the government is desperate to prevent Mr. Schlund from getting a fair trial.

Charles Schlund's challenge to the U.S. government: TEST ME! Charles Schlund is willing to provide hair samples to be tested IN THE COURTROOM! His hair has not been cut in more than *ten* years. Any use of drugs in the last tens years could be detected. It is time for the government to put up or shut up. Are they willing to test him?
