Report Back: LA Forum on and Fundraiser for Haiti (tags)
Over 200 people, overwhelmingly Black people, came out for the Public Forum on and Fundraiser for Haiti. Actor and activist Danny Glover, Pierre Labossiere, co-founder of Haiti Action Committee, and Robert Roth, board member of Haiti Emergency Relief Fund were featured speakers at the event which both helped get the word out about what's happening on the ground in Haiti and raised funds to support the Haitian grassroots. Margaret Prescod, host of KPFK's Sojourner Truth and Women of Color in the Global Women's Strike, chaired.
"Peace on Earth" vigil 2009 (tags)
This was the sixth consecutive year (a conservative count) that the Northeast LA Radical Neighbors have held vigils on December 25. The last several vigils have been a joint collaboration with the weekly Montrose Peace Vigil.
International Day of Climate Action in Eagle Rock (part 1) (tags)
In Eagle Rock, the 350 demonstration and public outreach had a turnout of at least 40 people. . . . In addition a large banner and colorful signs, a functioning solar cooker was displayed; and there was information about overpopulation; the significance of the number 350; literature from the Converging Storms Network; and a flyer announcing an upcoming screening of The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil, to be held in Glendale on December 4 (see: http://www.glendalepeacevigil.org/).
"Some of us were a bit reticent to go out in the rain on a holiday, but activism isn't always about doing what one wants or feels like. Also, speaking for myself, I truly feel the holiday spirit once I'm actually out and demonstrating."
On the weekend preceding Earth Day, the Eagle Rock and Highland Park vigils focused on Earth Day.

Impeach Demonstration in Northeast LA (tags)
People came from nearby far parts of the county to participate. One organizer counted 28-30 demonstrators. In one case, a passerby stopped and joined in. Several people held an impeach banner, about 12 feet in length, made by local activist Mary Jacobs. Others held custom-made impeach signs.
