The EPCC NEWS Reported today that number of Filipino nurses aspiring to practice their profession in the United States continued to drop year-on-year in the third quarter, the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) said over the weekend. In a news release, TUCP secretary-general and former senator Ernesto Herrera said only 2,227 Filipino nurses took the US NCLEX for the first time from July to September, down 38 percent or 1,355 fewer compared to the 3,582 in the same three-month period in 2009.

EPCC NEWS also confirmed it's three way fight between Pangilinan of LP, Villar of NP and Enrile of the PMP. Enrile allied itself with LP in attacking Villar of the NP during the last presidential elections. This will have an effect on the senate presidensial race on the Congress opening in July 26.

The EPCC said, "this is only a symptoms of the economic crisis and the people's anger on the stringent budget cuts, public services cut and higher rates that the government ( from the federal to the city) is imposing on the people of LA. Don't ever believe the official line that the Lakers victory is the sole cause of these disturbances." The EPCC NEWS noticed that the LAPD brought large numbers of officers into the Staples Center area hoping to avoid a repeat of last year's looting and violence. This was the magnet for violence. The mere presence of the police incites people to attack the LAPD.

The EPCC NEWS learned through Manila media sources that a detained military rebel general said that the Philippine Palace is “concluding maneuver” to control the high court could invite a military uprising, warned a rebel officer seeking a Senate seat. “[President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo] is inviting a new military uprising,” said West pointer and Army General Danny Lim said in a statement. He said military officers and their men were disappointed with the Supreme Court ruling authorizing Ms Arroyo to name Chief Justice Reynato Puno’s successor.

The EPCC NEWS today learned that the military on Monday said it has been well on track to defeating the communist insurgency within 2010, with the string of successes against the New People's Army across the country, causing the "meltdown" of rebel forces. According to the EPCC, in a speech to the army camp in Davao province in Mindanao, Army Lt. General Delfin Bangit, Philippine Army chief, said the military has been able to deal significant blows against the NPA, trimming down Asia's longest-running Maoist insurgency "into smaller formations." Bangit was in Davao del Norte Monday to personally thank and reward soldiers for "back-to-back victories" against the NPA in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental provinces in a week.

EPCC NEWS learned today that FACLA newly elected president Gregorio “Meng “ Gatus, first vice president Paul Julian, Rita Dinsay and Linda Nery were suspended in the latest board of directors meeting presided by acting president Mandy Francisco. EPCC NEWS learned through unnamed sources that the motion was initiated by Alfonso “ Al” Aquino, a newly appointed FACLA director.
