As the Los Angeles teachers girds for a strike on Friday, may 15, LAUSD officials said they will seek an immediate court injunction to stop Friday’s scheduled one-day teachers strike. The Coalition to Defend Immigrant Rights (CDIR) and the Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC) supports the teachers strike on Friday and will march today, May 12 at the LAUSD building at 1:00 PM. They are also protesting the lay-off of more than 4,500 teachers by June 2009. The LA Times today, May 12 said: "expected Tuesday morning filing in L.A. Superior Court is part of a two-pronged legal strategy by the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The Senate hearing Thursday on the nomination of General Michael Hayden to head the Central Intelligence Agency demonstrates the bipartisan congressional support for the Bush administration’s assault on the democratic rights of the American people. While there were scattered criticisms of the methods of the Bush administration, particularly its failure to consult with Congress, every senator on the Intelligence Committee accepted the premise that the United States is engaged in a “war on terror” and that the Bush administration’s escalation of domestic surveillance and wiretapping is a product of that war.
