The area command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has mobilized attack planes and gunship helicopters to extend air support to the combat battalions currently pursuing communist insurgents in Compostela Valley province and Davao Oriental. Clashes between government troops and members of the New People’s Army (NPA) left four soldiers and eight rebels dead, military officials yesterday said. Lt. Gen. Rodolfo Obaniana, AFP’s Eastern Mindanao Command area chief, ordered Maj. Gen. Ernesto Boac, 10th Infantry Division (ID) commander, to use all available combat personnel and military bulldozers to “pin down” the communist rebels.
COMPOSTELA VALLEY PROVINCE STILL IS THE VALLEY OF DEATH (tags)
Karapatan Southern Mindanao Region said today that Compostela Valley Province still bears the name it earned for what could only be blamed to the military ¡V the Valley of Death. This, the group said, is a result of the continued rule of military brutality and fascism in the area under 1001st Brigade-Philippine Army (PA) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The group based this observation from its four (4) months report in its monitoring of cases of human rights violations in the region from January 2007 to April 2007.
ANAKPAWIS LEADER KILLED IN DAVAO (tags)
ANAKPAWIS, a militant group representing the urban and rural poor, will be spearheading an indignation rally in Mawab, Compostela Valley Wednesday to condemn the murder of their municipal coordinator, Ranbert "Alvin" Placencia. Placencia, the militants say, is the 750th victim of extra-judicial killings since 2001.
