Dr. Enrile, National Chairperson of GABNet stated, “For too long the liberation of women has been used to legitimize the war. On March 9th, we stand together to declare that NO MORE will our just causes be used for such unjust actions.”

Two prominent international women's movement leaders visited Los Angeles in December as a part of a special North American tour. Selma James of London and Andaiye of Guyana spoke to a packed room at the Southern California Library on what we can learn from the past and present of autonomous socialist organizing in the Global South. Both women organize with the Global Women's Strike, which calls for recognition of and payment for all unwaged work, and an end to the twin terrors of poverty and war. The Strike's signature event is an annual work stoppage on International Women's Day, March 8.

We are urging support for Mehmet Tarhan, a conscientious objector who is a gay man, detained since 8 April in the military prison of Sivas, Turkey. We understand that he has been repeatedly and brutally attacked by other prisoners after prison staff told them that he was "a terrorist". His trial, which began on 26 May, has been postponed to 9 June. When he appeared in court on the 26th, Mr Tarhan had bruises all over his body and could not walk well. Thousands of South Koreans took to the streets of Seoul on April 12, 2003, to protest the U.S. war against Iraq. Activist En-kuk lies on a canvas painted with red paint symbolizing the death of Iraqi civilians. The protestors also demanded the withdrawal of the Seoul government's support to the war.
