Hotter than the Dust Bowl, but not hot enough for denialists (tags)

The only plausible explanation for global warming is human activity. So we should ask the obvious question: Who profits from the activity that causes global warming and who funds the anti-science global-warming denialist groups?

Banning Methane Mining - A Review of Gasland (tags)

An incisive critique of the movie Gasland.

Banning Methane Mining A Review of the movie, Gasland (tags)

A very revealing examination about how corporate environmental organizations (NRDC) facilitate polluting industry and dupe an 'artist' into promoting them and the corrupt politicians they cover for. Although there was a New York City premiere of the movie about a month ago, the film continues to tour and premiere in cities across the country and is a likely candidate for a Best Documentary Oscar. Here's where an earlier incarnation was published: http://www.counterpunch.org/jereski09172010.html The full article below includes significant rewrites (and key hyperlinks that were omitted in the earlier publication).

Rainwater Harvesting; Alternatives to SNWA Pipeline Project (tags)

Another option for Las Vegas is to outfit roofs with rainwater harvesting systems, both for collecting water and to reduce runoff that creates flash floods. This would create jobs and result in permanant solutions to increasing water supplies, unlike the SNWA's proposed pipeline from the Snake Valley aquifer that would cost billions and most likely overdraft the aquifer in less than 10 years time. Though the pipeline's promise of indefinite future supplies (real or imagined) could make some developers like Harvey Whittemore happy in the short term!!

Mr. Potato Heads Off Food Crisis! (tags)

Like a microcosm of what would eventually occur throughout most of the world, people in the US became increasingly dependent upon the agricultural, chemical, and petroleum industries for the production and delivery of "food." Diets that were once healthy became unnatural and based largely upon processed, powdered, light-weight, (easily shipped and stored) grains instead of locally grown, nutrient-dense, fresh organic vegetables and fruits. This dependency began in earnest around the 1930s, the years referred to by some as "the Dirty Thirties." Those were years when corporate profits at all costs seemed to take precedence and business became more important than people. ...............................................................................

Forests resist global US imperialism (tags)

The ongoing devastation of forests is resisted by people everywhere who desire a healthy ecosystem for the future, not the destruction caused by the Bush regime and their corporate timber barons.

A NEW DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE (tags)

America is the Ultimate Failed State. (tags)

After knocking down most of its forests, paving over its wetlands, polluting what water it has left and making all urban environments only habitable with what has become an accepted level of collateral damage in terms of illness and death caused by environmental pollution which has set off a domino effect of ill health down through the generations exposed, America has become like a caged animal not willing to face its own condition but yet completely willing to lash out violently at the World around it.

Insanity In America (tags)

It's always satisfying to have a pet theory supported by new data. A large and authoritative study, just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, confirms a favorite hypothesis of mine, that there is more mental illness and insanity, far more, in America than you find in other advanced societies.

Draft Proposal for a Continental Anti-Authoritarian Anti-Capitalist Network (tags)

On this tenth anniversary of the emergence of the Zapatistas from the Lacandon jungle, we call for the formation of a continental anti-authoritarian anti-capitalist network for North America. Our movements for liberation and freedom have met many challenges and our resistance continues to grow. It is now time to organize ourselves better through a de-centralized continental network of anti-capitalists

Fiddling while Rome burns (tags)

America produces a quarter of the world's carbon dioxide emissions, the population has risen by 100 million since 1970 and when an area three times the size of Britain was recently opened up for mining, drilling, logging and road building, no one took much notice. What does the Bush administration do? It ignores all attempts to curb environmental damage. In a major investigation that took him from the Salton Sea in California to Crooked Creek in Florida, Matthew Engel reports on how America is ravaging the planet
