 “It was wonderful to see people going out of their way to participate in these events. I believe we definitely need to continue to educate people, especially young people, as to who Leonard Peltier is. I think there's a concentrated effort made by various governments for us to forget who he is. . . . [P]eople also need to put more pressure on President Obama, put more pressure on the U.S. government for his release." -- Corine Fairbanks of AIM (American Indian Movement) Southern Cal (image/jpeg)

The health care crisis is so terrible in this country that it is best called a death system, not a health care system. What's Left for the Left? Building a Blue-Green Coalition
Marcy Winograd
2012-02-06 3:57 PM
 To build a strong electoral base for the Left, Green Party activists can build coalitions to pass ranked choice voting in cities throughout LA County, elect Greens to every non-partisan office - from neighborhood council to union leadership - and strategically support anti-war progressive Democrats running for state and federal office. From the ground up, we must build a diverse Green Party to protect our planet beyond the age of empire. (image/jpeg)
San Diego Queer Democrats Reject Progressive, Endorse Moderate for Congress

 The San Diego Democrats for Equality, a predominantly Queer Democratic party club, decisively rejected the Congressional candidacy of progressive former Assemblymember Lori Saldaña at its regular meeting January 26. Instead they endorsed moderate Scott Peters on the ground that he'd be a better "fit" for the district, could raise more money and would have a better shot at unseating Republican incumbent Brian Bilbray. Dr. West lectured on self-knowledge, what it means to be human, suffering, and the Occupy movement's role in confronting social, civic, and economic death of our society, as well as its moral bankruptcy. The CSUPD, however, sent a different message when its agents silenced an activist by prohibiting him from handing out flyers. (text/html)

Occupy Redlands Protests Citizens United Decision
Rockero

 Friday, January 20, 2012
<br>
RIVERSIDE (CA) - On the two-year anniversary of the US Supreme Court decision in the Citizens United case, Occupy Redlands staged a protest outside the federal bankruptcy court near downtown Riverside, just a few blocks from the former encampment of Occupy Riverside. Citizens removed limits on corporate campaign contributions to individual candidates, branding the money as "free speech." The ruling, and the sense that it helped to cement that the corporations are in control of the political system, was a strong motivating factor for many middle class people who formerly felt franchised to join the occupy movement. Once supporters from Occupy Riverside arrived, about 30 people were present on the corner outside the court. (image/jpeg)
