San Diego Mayoral Candidates Address Queer Community
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine
2012-04-03 12:30 AM
When this year's major candidates for Mayor of San Diego — City Councilmember Carl DeMaio, County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher and Congressmember Bob Filner — addressed the Queer community March 28, the irony that gripped the room was that the two openly Queer candidates, DeMaio and Dumanis, were running to the right of the non-Queer Fletcher and Filner. DeMaio, who in other contexts has said he wants to be "the Scott Walker of San Diego," dominated the event with his anti-labor pension "reform" proposal and his refusal to acknowledge the leadership of San Diego's Queer community even though he is Queer himself. spring snail
2012-03-31 6:01 PM The recent decision by the NV State Engineer to support the SNWA's proposed pipeline follows the same tactics used by San Fernando Valley developers who removed water from Owens Lake and Valley by using deception and purchasing land and favors from government officials.

NV State Engineer Rules Against Goshute Tribe and in Favor of SNWA Pipeline
Great Basin Water Network
2012-03-30 8:13 PM The Nevada State Engineer's decision last week supports the SNWA proposed pipeline despite numerous objections from the indigenous Goshute Nation and many other scientists who warn that the finite aquifers of the Snake and Spring Valley targeted by the SNWA pipeline would not sustain this amount of extraction without causing ecosystem collapse as springs dry and species become extinct. It could be said that removal of water from the sovereign Goshute Nation by the SNWA is a form of cultural genocide. (text/plain)
Gillnets Kill California Whales
Teri Shore
2012-03-30 6:01 PM The drift gillnet gear that killed a gray whale and entangled another over the past week along the Southern California coast is the same type of gear used by the California drift gillnet fishery targeting swordfish and shark that captured and killed at least two sperm whales in 2010. Solidarity for activist Carlos Montes as he goes to trial TUESDAY
indyradio.nu
2012-03-27 12:31 PM
Picketing will begin tomorrow morning outside Los Angeles County Superior Court as we perepare for the day's injustice. Carlos Montes is on the docket for a charge fabricated on the basis of a 42 year old misdemeanor. This is merely an excuse to disrupt his life by forcing him to go to trial. The lifetime of harassment suffered by Montes is how the United States rewards the struggle for peace and justice. Carlos will have his day in court tomorrow, on trumped up charges, simply because a faction of our Secret Police wants him shut up. Solidarity is mandatory. Show that you're human, love and don't surrender. (image/jpeg + 1 comment)
Sign the Petition for Trayvon Martin: Arrest the Killer George Zimmerman
=
2012-03-23 11:46 AM The horror of racism in this backward country is again front and center with the 2/26/12 killing of an unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin, in Florida, by an obviously criminally insane self-appointed vigilante, George Zimmerman, who has not yet been arrested for obvious murder, and the lack of notification of next of kin of Martin's death until his relatives filed a Missing Person Report. Please sign the petition to the district attorney, attorney general, police chief and Attorney General Eric Holder to have George Zimmerman arrested. (text/plain + 15 comments)
Indybay Journalists Charged with Felony: Conspiracy to Make Media
Indybay Collective
2012-03-22 9:40 PM
SANTA CRUZ, CA — District Attorney Bob Lee has embarked on a full frontal assault against independent media in Santa Cruz by including four regular contributors to the independent news website Indybay.org amongst the eleven people charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors after the occupation of a vacant bank building on November 30th, 2011. District Attorney Lee apparently believes it is his duty to dictate how events such as the occupation of the vacant bank at 75 River Street should be reported on by the media, and if he does not approve of the coverage, then journalists risk the DA bringing charges against them. The Unions, the Millionaires Tax, and the Road to Success
Ann Robertson and Bill Leumer
2012-03-22 12:22 AM This winter the California Federation of Teachers (CFT) sent tremors of hope through its ranks by announcing it was going to spearhead an attempt to place an initiative on the California ballot — appropriately called the “Millionaires Tax” — that would raise taxes only on millionaires (3 percent on those making more than $1 million; 5 percent on those making more than $2 million).
