The sad facts. Every public site, including Indymedia, is contributing to the surveillance apparatus.
Every public site is contributing its data to the surveillance apparatus.
Every private site, like the Meta products, Facebook and Instagram, or X, or Bsky, or any site that restricts you from seeing the content, is turning your interactions with it into a form of private capital.
They aren't even private, because a simple judge's subpoena forces the site owners to give up any data related to you.
They are "private" in that your data becomes part of their AI-model private property. They can allow you to "own" your content, but still train an AI model from your content, according to some contracts out there.
Videos get used for their visual and voice recognition training. The transcripts get used to improve speech to text, and text to speech.
This includes the Indymedia sites, which are scraped by the AI bots, search engines, and other websites.
They not only get surveilled, but turned into new capital, in the form of models, which can be used to profile movements, not only individuals, but trends within movements.
