As with the No King’s Day last June, Highland Park’s Veteran’s Memorial was the site of a substantial and long-running protest. Again, there was live music and a partylike atmosphere as the hundreds of participants occupied all four corners of the sizable intersection of York and Figueroa.

Initially, when the first 12 or so demonstrators had arrived, some passing motorists yelled pro-tr*mp remarks and obscenities, but as the turnout quickly grew (I was reminded of the famous scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds where birds rapidly accumulate on a jungle gym), tr*mp supporters no longer seemed emboldened. Over all, traffic response was quite enthusiastic, with many car occupants holding up signs of their own.
