Syria\r\ncontinues its support for terror and meddling in Lebanon. And Syria has\r\ntaken dangerous steps in pursuit of weapons of mass destruction, which\r\nis why Israeli action was justified to end that threat. [...]
\r\nThere is no greater threat to Israel – or to the peace and\r\nstability of the region – than Iran. Now this audience is\r\nmade up of both Republicans and Democrats, and the enemies of Israel\r\nshould have no doubt that, regardless of party, Americans stand\r\nshoulder-to-shoulder in our commitment to Israel's\r\nsecurity. \r\nThe Iranian regime supports violent extremists and challenges us across\r\nthe region. It pursues a nuclear capability that could spark a\r\ndangerous arms race, and raise the prospect of a transfer of nuclear\r\nknow-how to terrorists. Its President denies the Holocaust and\r\nthreatens to wipe Israel off the map. The danger from Iran is grave, it\r\nis real, and my goal will be to eliminate this threat.
\r\nBut just as we are clear-eyed about the threat, we must be clear about\r\nthe failure of today's policy. We knew, in 2002, that Iran supported\r\nterrorism. We knew Iran had an illicit nuclear program. We knew Iran\r\nposed a grave threat to Israel. But instead of pursuing a strategy to\r\naddress this threat, we ignored it and instead invaded and occupied\r\nIraq.

\r\nAs\r\nthe U.S. redeploys from Iraq, we can recapture lost influence in the\r\nMiddle East. We can refocus our efforts to critical, yet neglected\r\npriorities, such as combating international terrorism and winning the\r\nwar in Afghanistan. And we can, then, more effectively deal with one of\r\nthe greatest threats to the United States, Israel and world peace:\r\nIran. Iran's President Ahmadinejad's regime is a threat to all of\r\nus. [...] In the 21st century, it is unacceptable\r\nthat a member state of the United Nations would openly call for the\r\nelimination of another member state. [...]

\r\nThe world must work to stop Iran's uranium enrichment program and\r\nprevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. It is far too dangerous to\r\nhave nuclear weapons in the hands of a radical theocracy. And while we\r\nshould take no option, including military action, off the table,\r\nsustained and aggressive diplomacy combined with tough sanctions should\r\nbe our primary means to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons.
