A\r\nwoman who police believe may be the widow of one of the July 7 bombers\r\nis wanted for questioning by Kenyan authorities about a suspected\r\nterror plot, The Times has learnt.

\r\nAnti-terrorist officers in Nairobi suspect that Samantha Lewthwaite,\r\n28, who was married to Jermaine Lindsay, the suicide bomber who blew up\r\na Tube train at King's Cross [in Central London] in 2005, may have been\r\npart of a cell planning a terror attack in the coastal city of Mombasa\r\nlast Christmas.

\r\nThe Kenyans are hunting a female suspect who evaded capture when police\r\nswooped on the group last December. [...] She has\r\nhad three identities in the past and that [Samantha Lewthwaite] is one\r\npossible identity,\" Eric Kiraithe, a Kenyan police spokesman, said\r\nyesterday. [...]

\r\nThe Kenyan authorities have been liaising with the [London]\r\nMetropolitan Police over the continuing operation. The Met [i.e. the\r\nLondon Metropolitan Police] sent a large team of detectives from its\r\nCounter Terrorism Command to Nairobi to assist with the investigation\r\nand attempts have been made to trace her in Britain. \r\nThe terror cell is thought to have been directed by al-Shabaab, the\r\nMujahidin group which is waging a guerrilla war against Kenyan security\r\nforces in neighbouring Somalia. There are between 30 and 40 Britons at\r\npresent fighting with al-Shabaab, which is affiliated to al-Qaeda, in\r\nthe Somali conflict.
