\r\nArizona DPS system hacked: LulzSec group claims responsibility\r\n<\/p>

\r\nAn international group identifying itself as LulzSec claims it hacked into the Arizona Department of Public Safety's computer and downloaded a trove of sensitive law enforcement files now being distributed on the Internet.\r\n<\/p>
\r\nLulzSec said in a \r\nbulletin that it targeted DPS because it opposes SB 1070, \r\na law the Arizona Legislature passed that widened state law-enforcement officers' \r\nability to target illegal immigrants. \r\nThe law, which has been copied by several states, \r\nis largely on hold pending a review by the U.S. Supreme Court.\r\n<\/p>
\r\nSteve Harrison, a DPS spokesperson, \r\nconfirmed late Thursday that the agency's system had been hacked earlier in the day. \r\nHe told 12 News the agency had heard rumors that someone was working on hacking the agency's system, \r\nbut DPS could not do anything until the system was actually breached.\r\n<\/p>
\r\nExperts are working on closing the loopholes and have closed external access to the DPS system.\r\n<\/p>
\r\nOfficers can still communicate internally, Harrison said.\r\n<\/p>
\r\nAccording to news reports, \r\nthe anonymous computer-hacking group has taken credit for breaching \r\nwebsites of the Central Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Senate, \r\nthe Public Broadcast System, and numerous video game companies -- Sony being the latest target.\r\n<\/p>
\r\nLulzSec posts its exploits on \r\nTwitter, and as of Thursday, \r\nclaimed more than 261,200 followers.\r\n<\/p>
\r\nOn Thursday afternoon, \r\nLulzSec taunted Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio on his official account, \r\nsaying, \"Media? Heat? You?\" \r\nThe tweet included an expletive in Spanish aimed at the Border Patrol.\r\n[Perhaps Ch*nga la Migra?]<\/span>\r\n<\/p> \r\nAsked if Maricopa County was taking special precautions amid the high-profile attacks, \r\na county spokesman declined to provide details, saying only, \r\n\"We are always vigilant.\"\r\n<\/p> \r\nIn a bulletin accompanying the latest torrent of information, LulzSec said:\r\n<\/p> \r\n\"We are releasing hundreds of private intelligence bulletins, \r\ntraining manuals, personal email correspondence, names, phone numbers, \r\naddresses and passwords belonging to Arizona law enforcement. \r\nWe are targeting AZDPS specifically because we are against SB1070 \r\nand the racial profiling anti-immigrant police state that is Arizona.\"\r\n<\/p> \r\nThe group said it would release more information every week \r\nto embarrass military and law enforcement officials \r\n\"in an effort not just to reveal their racist and corrupt nature \r\nbut to purposefully sabotage their efforts to terrorize \r\ncommunities fighting an unjust 'war on drugs.' \"<\/p>\n . \/$$ \/$$ \/$$$$$$
