AWARE-LA INDUCTION OF OFFICERS , DEC. 8, 2009 AT FACLA SOCIAL HALL
Los Angeles—The Association of Widows, Relatives and Advocates for Equality (AWARE) based in Los Angeles marked the 68th year of the start of the Second World War and Pearl Harbor Day , December 7, 1941 with the induction of their new set of officers last December 8, 2009
The induction and dance party was held at the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) Social Hall last December 8, 2009 at 12;00 noon. AWARE,was formed with the help of Justice for Filipino Americans (JFAV).
Inducted by Consul General Mary Aragon were Lulu Astilla, President; Maria Agbunag, vice-president; Arturo P. Garcia, secretary; Mel Reyes, Treasurer; Nick Gadia, Auditor; Joy Alejandro, PRO, Pedro Morante, Sgt. At Arms. The officers comprised the Executive Board. .Board Members are Peping Baclig, Jack Vergara, Greg Villanueva and Ruben Manalo. Mr. Errol Santos of the HPMC is the AWARE adviser..

HPMC’s Jay Yoo inducted the new set of officers of the SGS led by the incoming commander Nick Gadia, Vice Commander Jack Vergara, Secretary Arturo Garcia and Greg Villanueva.
AWARE Works For Wellness
AWARE,a seniors, veterans and widows wellness group was formed in December 2008 at the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center Lecture hall and is supported by the HPMC and People’s CORE., a non-profit agency based in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles.
AWARE aims to work for the wellness of seniors and veterans and their relatives and advocate for benefits for the widows and relatives of World War II veterans. Working for the welfare and wellness of the seniors, AWARE has been successful in organizing and building alliances with other senior organizations in Los Angeles county as well as the widows, the veterans and their relatives and other senior’s groups.
Dancing and lunch followed the brief program. Arturo P. Garcia acted as the emcee.
Music was provided by Buddy and Letty Reyes and the Pentascostal Youth who regaled the crowd with Christmas carols.
