In the wake of California's State Supreme Court decision that upheld a ban on gay marriage which was passed by voters in last Novembers election, crowds of thousands erupted into a spontaneous protest and march that went from San Vicete and Santa Monica Bld. to Highland and Hollywood Blvd. The crowd of perhaps 10,000 then marched down Sunset to the protests origin at San Vicete.

At times the marchers were full of energy and indignation and at other times it seemed as though the crowd had been stricken with the reality of the decision and it's implications for their personal lives. At some points one could see hundreds of people marching along in silence through the Hollywood night.

The police presence was tolerant and and moderately casual. There was a sense of trust, hope and reason flowing through the evening.
