Since the SPLC cannot justify their budget by spying on anti-globalist activists, they need some credible evidence of genuine neo-Nazi hate groups and magnify their membership numbers so that people will continue to trust the SPLC as a legitimate source of knowledge. In reality, the SPLC has embraced the cause of Zionism and neo-liberal globalist (free trade) capitalism that includes the indefinite continuation of NAFTA/WTO free trade agreements with the resulting steady stream of undocumented immigrants ready to be exploited in the U.S. by slaughterhouses, agribusiness plantations and other industrial corporations..

The Gnostic Liberation Front's "Third Position" website defends their views against propaganda put out by SPLC in their "Neither Left nor Right" report that villifies anti-globalization activists;

"NEO-LIBERAL HATE AND RESISTANCE

“More and more, people on both ends of the traditional political spectrum … are finding that their world views overlap. In this, they have cooperated with the ADL and B’nai B’rith, who have press released numerous concerns of late about “anti-Zionism”, which they equate with “anti-Semitism”, among the American and Canadian campus based student left. Both groups, seeing their usual enemies -- the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke, the Aryan Nations, and the like -- largely exhausted financially and with little left to attack, have been desperately trying to justify their existence with these ad hominem expansions of the war on “hatred” – though there is some indication that the larger world is not buying it. As long time left-wing anarchist activist P. Milstein wrote in his recent essay “The Enemy of Our Enemy: The Southern Poverty Law Center ‘Bad Jackets’ Anarchists”:

“Are anarchists now the allies and recruits for the latest trend in white neo-fascism? The SPLC was founded by Morris Dees and Joe Levin in 1971, as a small law firm focusing on civil rights cases. During the 1980s, the SPLC was catapulted into the national spotlight by a series of legal victories that bankrupted KKK and neo-Nazi groups. It quickly became one of the most visible and best funded anti-racist watchdog groups in the US.

Like the ADL, the SPLC has attracted significant controversy. In 2000, Harper’s Magazine published an article by Ken Silverstein—the magazine’s award-winning Washington Editor—alleging that the SPLC greatly overstates the threat posed by hate groups in order to raise more money.

“In 1986,” Silverstein wrote, “the SPLC’s entire legal staff quit in protest of Dees’ refusal to address issues—such as homelessness, voter registration and affirmative action—that they considered far more pertinent to poor minorities, if far less marketable to affluent benefactors, than fighting the KKK.”

Another similarity to the ADL is the SPLC’s Intelligence Project, which gathers information on a variety of “extremist” groups and publishes its findings in the quarterly Intelligence Report. While typically focused on white supremacists, the Report began covering the anti-globalization, animal rights and radical environmental movements following the 1999 World Trade Organization (WTO) protests in Seattle, Washington. Although the Report has generally avoided the “ecoterrorism” label in favor of “ecoradicalism,” it has undermined this sober restraint through a campaign of innuendo, conjecture, misinformation and fear-mongering that makes the ADL look amateurish by comparison.

In the Winter 2000 edition of the Report, for example, the SPLC concluded that the WTO protests signaled a coming alliance between right-wing and left-wing opponents of globalization, including neo-Nazis, the Nation of Islam and Earth First!. This charge was repeated in the Summer 2001 Report, which flung numerous outlandish accusations at the ELF in the hope that one might stick. The SPLC charged that “the ELF’s use of underground violence strongly resembles ex-Klansman Louis Beam’s concept of ‘leaderless resistance,’” as if this shared organizational structure is proof of a common racist ideology. Never mind the fact that leaderless resistance was actually developed by a US intelligence officer as a strategy for combating communist “extremists.”

"

article cont's @;

http://breakallchains.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Why would the SPLC be threatened by people from the far right and the far left having common ground on certain issues, especially globalization (NAFTA/WTO) and corporate power mongering in a globalist economy? The debates surrounding undocumented immigration have shown people that there are common ground issues often ignored by constant bickering between opposing and polarized viewpoints. Those who cannot or will not join with one "side" against the other are marginalized as "fence straddlers", when instead they attempt to promote unity against the primary causes like NAFTA/WTO policies..

When it comes to undocumented immigration, some generalizations are between two polarized opposing groups setting up a false dichotomy debate of "open borders" vs. "closed borders", with neither side willing to discuss the possibility of repealing NAFTA/WTO as a means of stabilizing the economic imbalance between the U.S. and Mexico, giving Mexican farmers the chance to remain in their country of birth and own land, grow crops on their traditional indigenous milpa gardens and in general live well and prosper without being driven out of business by subsidized U.S. grain/corn imports (Cargill, ADM, Monsanto, etc..) that rely on NAFTA/WTO agreements to override protective tariffs..

However, it is easier for the neo-liberal side of the "open borders" groups to denounce anyone who disagrees with their position as racist and the neo-conservative "closed borders" groups to denounce anyone who disagrees as unpatriotic. When neither side is correct and ignores the factors of NAFTA/WTO free trade policies as the primary source of the increased rates of undocumented immigration, the last thing we need is more scare tactics and drama by the SPLC warning people of hate groups who in reality are small in number and resources. The same cannot be said for the profiteers of undocumented immigrant labor, the industrial meatpackers and agribusinesses like ADM, Cargill, Conagra and Monsanto..

That is not to say that competition over ever increasingly expensive resources; food, oil and living wage jobs could result in incidents of anger and violence coming from a small minority of ignorant and misled individuals in the U.S. being directed towards people in the greater immigrant community, especially Mexicans. This is wrong and foolish behavior on the part of the misled attackers, as the true enemies of ALL people (Mexicans, Anglos, Semites, Asians, Africans, Native Americans, etc..) are the multinational corporations (with their NAFTA/WTO agreements) and the U.S. (& Mexican) government's police state of federal enforcers of centralized corporate rule..

When August Kries, the leader of the Aryan Nations, proposed an alliance with Al-Qaeda, he may have stumbled onto something important. Whether this can happen in reality remains to be seen. It is obvious that localized resistance movements from the Zapatistas (EZLN), Al-Queda, Hamas and the Aryan Nations could accomplish a great deal more by working together as a united front against the corporate and globalist U.S. government power structure than wasting their energy quibbling with one another about racial, ethnic and religious differences. For his effort at putting aside racial politics and instead building strategic bridges between Euro-american nationalist groups and Islamic radicals of Al-Qaeda, August Kreis is either insane, a genius or both. Either way this recent approach by Kreis at building bridges could set the trend for future relationships. It always takes an original thought to grow and evolve into something greater. One possible outcome could be Aryan Nations helping Al-Qaeda with meeting their physical needs (housing, food, etc..) within the North American continent..

"You might think white supremacists like Kreis would spurn al Qaeda, since they tend to view non-Aryan Christians as, in their own term, "mud people." In fact, most of them do. The third position attempts to find a balance between the right wing pro-corporate capitalist agenda (fascism) and the left wing worker state agenda (communism) without trampling the civil liberties of individuals in the process. The 3rd position is inherently anti-capitalist, though is also equally anti-communist. Another way of looking at 3rd position is to prevent any imbalances between corporations and working people from getting out of hand to where extremist positions like fascism and state communism become acceptable in public opinion. This is what happened after WW1 that led to the rise of Hitler's Nazi party as an 'alternative' to communism..

There was a need in Germany during the time prior to WW2 to regulate some of the corrupt corporate elites, and this is what the public appeal of national socialism (and communism) was initially. The actual state fascism of the Nazi party under Hitler was the merging of corporations with government, though not for the benefit of the people as originally promised. The siezure of corporations and factories by the government (nationalization) should have been returned to the control of the workers, though instead the factories became operational slave camps. The scapegoating and internment of working class Jews, Gypsies, Communists and others were reactionary measures taken to avoid dealing with the corporate power elite's continued influence in German government. Ironically we saw similar patterns of initial false promises and later internment camps under Stalin, and that government professed to be Communist!!

Of course nothing is ever so simple as it appears, and repressed information about weallthy Zionist Jews collaborating with Hitler's Nazis while their less fortunate bretheren perished in the death camps also needs to be addressed;

"There is ample evidence that world Zionism collaborated with the National Socialist government during the Second World War, in order to: (1) protect certain elitist Jews and their various interests; (2) pressure most of the Jews of Europe to leave; (3) thus, accomplishing the establishment of the state of Israel. More and more evidence has come to the forefront, demonstrating the truth about what at first seems to be an unlikely scenario. Nazis helping Jews? Jews helping Nazis? And, during the “Holocaust”? Is this some kind of conspiracist fantasy? How could this be? Stranger political bedfellows could not be imagined! But, when the facts are examined, as is often the case, truth is stranger than fiction.

In 2001, I was honored to publish an exclusive first-run feature of Prof. Dr. Clarence Lang’s revealing and somewhat startling translation of an important historical document. It appeared in my print newsletter, The Revisionist Observer, No. 4, 2001. Since that time, I came across an even more controversial work, Adolf Hitler, Founder of Israel (in German, Adolf Hitler, Begrunder Israels). The translation and editing leave a bit to be desired, nor is it properly sourced or referenced, but it contains quite a storehouse of information – as well as speculation. There is no time now for a full review, but essentially the book maintains that Hitler and the main characters in the National Socialist movement (and later, the government) were of either Judaic or part-Judaic descent. Among other things, this makes Adolf a Rothschild relative! I previously mentioned the book in my online e-magazine feature, and misunderstandings resulted. Hence, I am not presenting these hypotheses as either completely true -- or completely false. Read the book and decide for yourself. When my commentary continues after the translation, you will see why I bring attention to this controversial work. Remarkably, if we accept Kardel’s ideas, then the “Holocaust” was just a sad and curious intra-Judaic affair! Interesting idea, is it not?"

read on @;
http://gnosticliberationfront.com/wartime_collaboration_between_zi.htm

The problem is when one group or another attempts to be guardians of what is "politically correct" and then uses this position to allow or prevent certain ideas from being discussed in public forums. Then there's the general agreement from the left on how issues are defined by their position of where they fall on the political spectrum, regardless of actual definitions..

Hugo Chavez recently nationalized Venezuala's petroleum industry to prevent foreign (U.S.) petroleum corporations from exploiting the resources of Venezuala. Evo Morales then followed suit and did similar measures to nationalize Bolivia's natural gas industry. This could be considered a method of national socialism, though media in the U.S. labels it as "communist" or "socialist" much to the satisfaction of leftists in the U.S. who wish to identify with Chavez as a potential communist/socialist rescuer from rampant policies of U.S. capitalism..

The GLF website that supports the third position also speaks highly of Hugo Chavez, who could be considered a "3rd positionist" himself, though the U.S. media and some leftists call him "socialist", he doesn't really fit into that narrow category either;

from GLF;

"Chavez is slowly transforming Venezuelan politics and making significant headway in areas of redistribution and social welfare. The country’s 25 million people now have full access to free health care and illiteracy has been eliminated. Government programs now provide15 million people with subsidized food, medicine and other essentials. Medical clinics have sprung up in every barrio in Caracas and college enrollment has increased exponentially.

Chavez has created a model of governance that is based on human needs rather than rigid ideology. This has made it more difficult to discredit him as dogmatic or authoritarian. His policies of income redistribution have created a burgeoning Venezuelan middle class which is changing the political dynamic throughout Latin America. He has become Washington’s "biggest nightmare" and a threat to America’s economic dominance in the region.

"Let's consider socialism," Chavez said. "Let's debate it and build it. I believe that mistakes were in the economic analysis, and there should be social praxis. 21st century socialism should be based on solid human values."

No one has done more to reenergize the Left than Hugo Chavez. He has become the face of anti-imperialism and the champion of progressive socialism. His views on education, poverty-reduction, social justice, and the equitable distribution of oil revenues are sweeping the hemisphere; brushing aside centuries of colonialism.

The politics of personal accumulation and perennial war are on the decline. Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come. As Chavez says, "We must embrace a new type of socialism, a humanist one, which puts humans, not machines and not the state, above everything".

This century’s Enlightenment is coming from south of the border.

Viva Chavez."

entire article on Chavez @;
http://gnosticliberationfront.com/viva_chavez.htm

Notice the article mentions "His policies of income redistribution have created a burgeoning Venezuelan middle class...", so if this is also the goal of Alex Jones, supporting the middle class of the U.S. which is currently sinking into poverty, why then call Alex Jones a fascist? If Alex Jones favored nationalization of private property of U.S. oil companies to benefit the oil rig workers and people living nearby, would he be a socialist, nationalist or a little bit of both??

Socialism and nationalization of capitalist private properties can be mislabed as simply socialism, the differences in terminology can confuse people from the actual issues. What follows is that Chavez reclaimed Venezualan resources from private foreign oil companies and redistributes the profits from said resources amongst the people of Venezuala..

“We are recovering property and management in these strategic areas,” said Chavez. “The privatization of oil is over in Venezuela. This was the last area that we hadn’t recovered. This is the true nationalization of the oil. The oil belongs to all Venezuelans.”

Venezuela’s oil industry had been under private control until 1974, when Venezuela nationalized it. In the 1990’s, though, PDVSA engaged in a so-called “oil opening,” where it allowed more and more private companies to extract oil, via majority shares in joint ventures and the operating agreements.

Chavez supporters have long argued that oil was never truly nationalized in Venezuela because the same management controlled oil production after nationalization and that the oil industry never really operated under government control until the old management was fired in the wake of the December 2002 to January 2003 oil industry shutdown.

Chavez emphasized yesterday, though, that foreign oil companies are still welcome in Venezuela, just not as majority stake holders. Chavez said that his government does not want “that the companies leave, but that they are minority partners. The owner will be PDVSA and the business will be in the hands of Venezuelans.”

article found @;
http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/news/2245

There needs to be some further dialogue over what we label as national socialist, third position, nationalist anarchism, tribal nationalism and other positions that are misunderstood in the pro-integrationist U.S. and especially by statist communists who favor a monolithic state where everyone is "equal". Most other nations are tribally nationalist in their makeup, and the conflicts between various tribal, ethnic and religious groups is what defines the "national" character.

Once again, here's the GLF position on the third position and the attempts of the "Old Left" to discredit 3rd position as "fascist";

"
“If I told you I thought the world was controlled by a handful of capitalists and corporate bosses, you would say I was a left-winger,” an anarchist black blocker told PRAVDA.Ru at a recent demonstration against the Afghanistan War. “But if I told you who I though the capitalists and corporate bosses were, you’d say I was far right,” the bandana-clad youth added with a wink.

The masked gutter punk was not alone. His perspective -- a broad blend of left-wing socialism and far-right nationalist and libertarian views – has been slowly infiltrating both extremes of the political spectrum, particularly in the anti-globalist movement, and has been leading to a new synthesis of doctrine – “beyond left and right” – that is coalescing around a number of tendencies – national anarchism, social nationalism, national bolshevism – that some are calling the fastest growing ideological movement on the fringe. Though significantly divergent in their beliefs, these ideologies are at the core of what is being called the “Third Position” – a collection of radical anti-capitalist, anti-globalist and anti-imperialist views that that are outspoken in their rejection of the corporate state, of social democracy, of Marxism, and of Zionism.

But just as these ideologies are gaining more adherents, they are also becoming the target of more disinformation, as the extreme Old Leftists of the anti-globalist movement call conferences to attack these ideas, and as the self-righteous defenders of neo-liberalism try to force these doctrines’ square peg into their round hole of “hate” and “fascism”. Decadence is fighting back, but as the proponents of these ideas steadily resist being labeled as “far right” by the defenders of the neo-liberal corporate-socialist status quo, the globalist power structure has found itself in a boxing match with a body of water.

ORIGIN -- THE OPPOSITION TO HITLER

“Two million Germans have been or still are guests in the cells of the Gestapo, or are or have been familiar with the delights of Dachau, Buchenwald, or Oranienburg. These two million have parents, wives, children. Both sides have some credible science to support their positions. Those who believe that race exists use forensic anthropology (study of skeletal remains) to support their view, while those who believe that race does NOT exist use serology (study of blood) to support their view..

"The "reality of race" therefore depends more on the definition of reality than on the definition of race. If we choose to accept the system of racial taxonomy that physical anthropologists have traditionally established—major races: black, white, etc.—then one can classify human skeletons within it just as well as one can living humans. The bony traits of the nose, mouth, femur, and cranium are just as revealing to a good osteologist as skin color, hair form, nose form, and lips to the perceptive observer of living humanity. I have been able to prove to myself over the years, in actual legal cases, that I am more accurate at assessing race from skeletal remains than from looking at living people standing before me. So those of us in forensic anthropology know that the skeleton reflects race, whether "real" or not, just as well if not better than superficial soft tissue does. The idea that race is "only skin deep" is simply not true, as any experienced forensic anthropologist will affirm.

Position on race

Where I stand today in the "great race debate" after a decade and a half of pertinent skeletal research is clearly more on the side of the reality of race than on the "race denial" side. Yet I do see why many other physical anthropologists are able to ignore or deny the race concept. Blood-factor analysis, for instance, shows many traits that cut across racial boundaries in a purely clinal fashion with very few if any "breaks" along racial boundaries. (A cline is a gradient of change, such as from people with a high frequency of blue eyes, as in Scandinavia, to people with a high frequency of brown eyes, as in Africa.)

"Clines" represent gradients of change, such as that between areas where most people have blue eyes and areas in which brown eyes predominate.

Morphological characteristics, however, like skin color, hair form, bone traits, eyes, and lips tend to follow geographic boundaries coinciding often with climatic zones. This is not surprising since the selective forces of climate are probably the primary forces of nature that have shaped human races with regard not only to skin color and hair form but also the underlying bony structures of the nose, cheekbones, etc. (For example, more prominent noses humidify air better.) As far as we know, blood-factor frequencies are not shaped by these same climatic factors.

So, serologists who work largely with blood factors will tend to see human variation as clinal and races as not a valid construct, while skeletal biologists, particularly forensic anthropologists, will see races as biologically real. The common person on the street who sees only a person's skin color, hair form, and face shape will also tend to see races as biologically real. They are not incorrect. Their perspective is just different from that of the serologist.

So, yes, I see truth on both sides of the race argument.

Those who believe that the concept of race is valid do not discredit the notion of clines, however. Yet those with the clinal perspective who believe that races are not real do try to discredit the evidence of skeletal biology. Why this bias from the "race denial" faction? This bias seems to stem largely from socio-political motivation and not science at all. For the time being at least, the people in "race denial" are in "reality denial" as well. Their motivation (a positive one) is that they have come to believe that the race concept is socially dangerous. In other words, they have convinced themselves that race promotes racism. Therefore, they have pushed the politically correct agenda that human races are not biologically real, no matter what the evidence.

Consequently, at the beginning of the 21st century, even as a majority of biological anthropologists favor the reality of the race perspective, not one introductory textbook of physical anthropology even presents that perspective as a possibility. In a case as flagrant as this, we are not dealing with science but rather with blatant, politically motivated censorship. But, you may ask, are the politically correct actually correct? Is there a relationship between thinking about race and racism?"

entire article found @;
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/first/gill.html

The concept of race, ancestry and ethnicity are relevant, especially in the U.S. where so many people can trace their ancestry to different places. Our political system since the founding of the U.S. has relied on misconceptions about race and ancestry from the beginning until today, we're not exactly a melting pot (nor should we be!), and divisions between people based upon ancestry (not the same as race), ethnicity and cultural factors (religion, diet, lifestyle, etc..) are increased by confusion about what race actually is..

Within the anthropology community, race and ancestry will always be an issue open for much time consuming debate and research, the recent findings of similar shared traits in blood and adaptation to climates as an influence of descendant's traits over time is still unknown. For example, will people from Africa living in Canada gradually lose melanin over generations, or would people from Sweden living in Africa gradually gain melanin over generations?

Background on skin color, ancestry and climate;

"Although anthropologists thus no longer classify populations in terms of races, they do recognize that human populations exhibit diverse phenotypes. Different traits are, for example, very useful in the field of forensic anthropology. A forensic anthropologist must extract as much information as possible to assist in the identification of an individual. Part of that job requires identifying that individual's ancestral phenotype. Ancestral phenotypes are suites of traits that are associated with geographic populations. At first, this sounds a lot like a synonym for race; however, the difference lies in the lack of distinct divisions. The task simply relies on the idea that any given individual may have characteristics known to be common in a particular geographic area. Determining ancestry comes from familiarity with the clinal distribution of phenotypic characteristics.

So, when in the past did phenotypic diversity of the sort found in modern humans evolve? To answer this question, anthropologists usually look to correlations that exist between external traits and environmental variations. The evolution of varied skin color offers a good example. At some point in human evolution the amount and length of body hair commonly seen as a thick coat in other primates was greatly reduced. Only a fine coat of body hair was retained, which means that the skin of modern people is much more exposed to the elements than in other primates.

Increases and decreases in skin pigmentation became a crucial way of adapting to the diverse climate zones that humans, especially modern humans, came to inhabit.The results of a recent study demonstrate that skin coloration is strongly correlated with ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels and latitude. The color of a person's skin is the result of the amount of melanin pigment in the skin. More melanin means darker skin. Melanin absorbs UV radiation from the sun. UV radiation aids the body in vitamin D synthesis; however, it also causes nutrient photolysis (chemical decomposition caused by radiant energy) particularly the photolysis of folate, a converted form of folic acid that is crucial to reproductive success.

Due to small amounts of melanin beneath their thick hair, other primates tend to have light colored skin over most of their body. Exposed areas such as the face and hands, though, have varying degrees of melanin. So, for example, common chimpanzees often have light facial skin, while other apes also closely related to humans have darkly-pigmented faces, even though the skin beneath their thick coats is often light in color. Using other primates as a guide, then, our ancestors could have had light colored skin over parts of their bodies prior to the time when hairiness was greatly reduced. However, it is impossible to prove ancestral skin pigmentation.

Lacking any preserved paleo-skin to go on, paleoanthropologists have looked to skeletal evidence for some clues. With the evolution of the species Homo ergaster (or early African Homo erectus), there was an important shift in body proportions. Appearing about 1.7 million years ago, Homo ergaster was the first tall human species we know of. Its body was strong and powerful, which suggests that this species was susceptible to heat stress as it moved around during the day. The best-known specimen of this species, the "Turkana Boy" ( KNM WT15000 ) from northern Kenya, had a narrow pelvis and a skeleton reminiscent of the long, linear bodies evident in modern peoples from hot equatorial environments. Looking at the nasal bones of the face, Homo ergaster may also have been the oldest human to evolve an enlarged nasal cavity effective in moisturizing inhaled air and precipitating the moisture on to the nasal membranes during exhalation. This matter of moistening dry air but not exhaling the moisture is a critical factor in preventing water loss in dry environments during the process of breathing.

This combination of evidence points to the possibility that Homo ergaster was the first hominin to be strongly affected by a hot, dry environment. It's in this type of habitat that sweat glands similar to our own and skin exposure due to hair reduction are likely to have evolved. These developments enabled the evaporative cooling of sweaty skin - a novel and effective way of regulating body temperature in a hot setting. Since Homo ergaster originated in Africa, UV radiation levels would have been high, perhaps similar to their levels in historic times. Low melanin levels would have allowed a great deal of UV radiation to penetrate the skin and enter the subepidermal tissues. To protect these delicate tissues, melanization (increase in the density of melanocytes in the epidermis and the production of darker skin) would have proven very advantageous.

Nutrient photolysis of folate, mentioned above, is thought to have played an important role in natural selection and the evolution of darker skin colors. Folic acid is required for normal DNA biosynthesis, and folate (a conjugated form of folic acid) is required for bone marrow maturation and red blood cell development. Research has also shown a causal relationship between neural tube defects and folate lysis. In addition, tests on lab mice and rats have shown that folate deficiency can cause male infertility (by arresting spermatogenesis). Putting all of these clues together, it's reasonable to hypothesize that Homo ergaster individuals that had greater protection against UV radiation were likely to produce more offspring than those with lower concentrations of melanin, eventually leading to darker skin colors associated with tropical environments.

As populations spread from Africa, it seems likely that dark skin color was less well suited to environments with lower UV radiation levels in the temperate zone. While dangerous in excess, UV radiation is essential for the synthesis of previtamin D3, which is needed for calcium absorption and normal skeletal development. In tropical areas, there is no problem receiving enough UV light for D3 synthesis. In higher latitudes, though, where exposure to UV light is significantly less, a high concentration of melanin may hinder the passage of enough radiation to synthesize the necessary amount of the vitamin precursor. Medical records show that people with darker skin living in the higher latitudes are at greater risk for vitamin D3 deficiency (which can trigger the onset of various bone density diseases that can result in immobilization, deformities, and death). For this reason, it is believed that as populations moved north, natural selection favored lighter shades of skin. The point is that by understanding the biological benefits of traits, it is possible to understand the evolution of them.

In light of all this information, phenotypic diversity - the expression of different external traits in different geographic regions - probably has deep roots in human ancestry. Yet the historical pattern of geographic variation evident in modern humans has been around for only a very brief time. Humans have spread extensively over the past 50,000 to 100,000 years, much more so than in any prior period of human evolution. And as populations have extended to new continents, islands, and more extreme environments, humans groups have adapted in new ways and have interbred. Phenotypic differences among humans are thus many and diverse, and have been shaped and reshaped over the past 50,000 years - less than 1% of the evolutionary history all people have in common. "

article found @;
http://anthropology.si.edu/HumanOrigins/faq/race.htm

The differences are relevant, and people are genetically adapted to the climates of their ancestors. How people react over time and generations to new climates far from their original climate of ancestry is unknown..

What is known and currently exploited by geneticists at pharmacuetical corporations is the probability that people of a certain ancestry will be predisposed to certain inherited diseases. The differences here are based upon genes and ancestry, NOT larger inclusive categories like race, though in some instances these traits can also apply to racial categories..

Author Kenan Malik challenges both sides of the 'race debate', showing that political correctness and reactionary science are equally wrong at discovering some 'truths' long ignored..

"The irony is that, for all the vitriol directed at Watson, racial talk today is as likely to come out of the mouths of liberal anti-racists as of reactionary racial scientists. The affirmation of difference, which once was at the heart of racial science, has become a key plank of the anti-racist outlook. We’re All Multiculturalists Now observes the American sociologist Nathan Glazer, in the title of a book. Indeed we are. The celebration of difference, respect for pluralism, avowal of identity politics – these have come to be regarded as the hallmarks of a progressive, anti-racist outlook and as the foundation of a modern liberal democracy. The paradoxical result, as we shall see, has been to transform racial thinking into a liberal dogma. Out of the withered seeds of racial science have flowered the politics of identity. Strange fruit, indeed.

This book challenges both sides of the race debate. There are three broad parts to my argument. The first two chapters explore the meaning of race as a scientific category. Race, I argue, is a social, not a scientific category, but it is precisely because it is a social category that it may be useful in scientific and medical research. Chapters 3 to 7 examine the rise and fall historically of the idea of race and explain its sublimation into the idea of culture. Chapters 8 to 10 look at the contemporary clash between claims of scientific rationality and those of cultural identity and at how much modern liberal thinking has been infected by a racial view of the world. The final chapter is an afterword on the Watson row, which re-examines the debate over his comments in light of the argument in this book.

Race is not a rational, scientific category. Anti-racism has become an irrational, anti-scientific philosophy. The challenge we face is to confront racial thinking while defending scientific rationality and promoting Enlightenment universality. The aim of this book is to do just that."

find Kenan Malik's book "Strange Fruit: Why Both Sides are Wrong in the Race Debate" @;

http://www.kenanmalik.com/top/books.html

thank you for the detailed analysis.
But racism is much easier to identify with than 'groupism'.
Doesn't it just refer to xenophobia and exploitation along class / power centers?
It seems to blur the real reasons of violent conflict and injustice with a massive word hash having little to do with the deeper reasons the human race is struggrling towards its own annihilation.
But damn, that was a detailed analysis and I thank you for it.
