New pine tree growth in the aftermath of the Curve Fire

In the Angeles National Forest, the Curve Fire of 2002 did extensive damage, damage that was made worse by the flooding of 2005.

On 28/Oct/07 I did a survey of one of the burn areas across from Valley of the Moon in a stand of pine trees and this is what I saw.

New growth in this area is fairly unique in that many of the burn areas have not recovered whereas this particular area has. New pine trees planted by volunteers next to this natually-regrowing area are also doing well.

Fire is a natural part of the life cycle and I HATE seeing what I consider to be MY trees being killed. At least I am reminded once again that man's stupidity (the Curve fire was deliberately set by Christian cultists conducting an animal-burning ritual in the woods) some times nature recovers.
