Now -- as the war threatens to escalate even while a growing majority in the United States wants to see it end -- the time has come to visibly increase nationwide opposition to this policy by organizing and participating in dramatic nonviolent civil disobedience in cities and towns across the United States.

At this crucial moment, the Declaration of Peace is joining with the larger national anti-war movement to organize an escalating campaign of bold nonviolent civil disobedience and other forms of peaceful resistance March 16-19 at Congressional offices and other sites in as many as 100 cities across the country.

Between now and mid-March, groups across the US will prepare to take action by calling on their members of Congress to sign the Congressional Declaration of Peace, a commitment to vote NO on any funding for war in Iraq; to support the troops by bringing them home rapidly and safely; and to back a plan for peace. Preparing for these acts of conscience and resistance, groups will organize outreach to Congress, hold nonviolent action training, and develop plans for peaceful and determined action.

For information: The Declaration of Peace: <http:\/\/www.declarationofpeace.org<\/a>> .

<\/p>\n","contact":"","link":"http:\/\/declarationofpeace.org\/","address":"","phone":"","parent_id":0,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","summary":"The Declaration of Peace Calls for Nationwide Nonviolent Civil Disobedience to stop the occupation of Iraq.","numcomment":0,"fileurl":"\/uploads\/2007\/02\/dc.jpg","filesize":"71.4 kibibytes","article_url":"\/news\/2007\/02\/194192.php","image":{"original":"\/uploads\/2007\/02\/dc.jpg","small":"\/uploads\/2007\/02\/dc.jpgthumb.jpg","medium":"\/uploads\/2007\/02\/dc.jpgmid.jpg"}},"attachments":[],"comments":[]}
