A rally on the mall was followed by a spirited march, which almost completely encircled the capital building. Some 800 activists stayed on in Washington after the protest to lobby their congressional representatives on Jan. 29. After Democrats won a landslide victory in the mid-term election, based largely on the public's majority anti-war sentiment, the peace movement seemed to be infused with a new sense of its power to change U.S. policy. Between The Lines' Scott Harris was there and files this report.

Related links:

Video clip of antiwar crowd in the Washington D.C. mall estimated in the hundreds of thousands

United for Peace and Justice at www.unitedforpeace.org_

Tom Hayden's website at www.tomhayden.com

Maxine Waters' website at www.house.gov\/waters

Gold Star Mothers Speak Out at www.gsfso.org

LISTEN to this week's half-hour program of Between The Lines by clicking on one of the links below:

http:\/\/www.btlonline.org<\/a>

*

\"Between The Lines\" is a half-hour syndicated radio news magazine that each week features a summary of under-reported news stories & interviews with activists & journalists who offer progressive perspectives on international, national & regional political, economic & social issues.
