"October Surprise"?

"Is Osama bin Laden going to weigh in on the midterm elections? A senior counterterrorism official, anonymous, like other officials NEWSWEEK spoke to, because the subject is sensitive, says that based on previous patterns—such as the release of a rare bin Laden tape just before the 2004 presidential vote—a message before Election Day wouldn't be surprising. Private expert Evan Kohlmann, who consults for the Feds on terror probes, says Al Qaeda has lately released tapes at a rate of two or three per month. This month, he says, they are 'short by one or two,' so he thinks a pre-election message is a 'very good likelihood.'"

This story may indeed have some basis in fact.

An "October Surprise" is a real possibility.

Newsweek's analysis, however, is beyond ridiculous.

The Dubya Administration has been assuring us that a Democratic victory next week would serve the interests of al-Qaeda.

How then would another September 11th, so close to the election,result in what the GOP instructs us to believe would be a benefit to Osama bin Laden & Co.?

Who ultimately benefited from the atrocities of the "New Pearl Harbor" perpetrated against us five years ago?

Who was able to hold onto the White House, the Congress and the Senate?

Who started a war in Iraq, based on the claim of links between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda, among other diabolical lies?

Who was able to ram unConstitutional legislation into statutory law, based on fear?

Who convinced the gullible in America that "you need us"?

Why would this proposed "October Surprise" be any different?

Cui bono? Who benefits?
