The police were not the enemy in this event. The union-busting sweatshop hotels were. The police actually helped us make this event as public as it was. On the other hand, the Spanish language channels, 52 and 34, though corporately own, were even handed in their reports. ","author":"A. The police were not part of this event. They used the event as an opportunity to train their fellow officers so they can become an even stronger and repressive force in our communities. Police have never been helpful to any human rights, civil rights, labor and revolutionary movements here in the U.S. They've only been repressive, violent, and murderous. Who was first created to destory unions? The police. Who was first created to catch runaway slaves? The police. Know your history. Stop sleeping with the enemy. Average wage for non-union housekeepers is below $9. Average wage for union housekeepers is near $13. (This partly reflects the fact that small hotels are probably not organized, have less revenue, and pay lower wages.) It's a good opportunity to negotiate for raises, if you're working at a big hotel. The only way to get a better deal, if you have a relatively low-skill job, is collective bargaining.\r\n\r\nDespite the rhetoric about suffering, the people working at the big chain hotels are probably doing better than, say, someone cleaning up at a motel. The issue is certainly more about getting a fair piece of the profits which they helped create.","author":"johnk","parent_id":180330,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2006-10-03 07:29:29","modified":"2006-10-03 08:01:45","fileurl":""},{"id":180877,"heading":"dont be a hater","article":"dont hate the fuzz. there just doing there job.","author":"afrothunder","parent_id":180330,"mime_type":"text\/plain","created":"2006-10-03 09:05:17","modified":"2006-10-03 09:07:57","fileurl":""},{"id":181464,"heading":"Stand Up!!","article":"Hey!
